outer banks: What to do in a Hurricane

As Hurricane Ear comes closer to the Oater Banks, and the different areas start evacuating, I thought it would be a good fine for a refresher of what to do for any vacationers.
Here are a few tips.
1) When they change it from a "watch" to a "warning", you have less than 24 hours.
2) If you are not a resident, don't wait for the country make the evacuation mandatory. If they ar recommending it, then heed their advice.

Mid-Currituck Bridge The Authority is progressing with the environmental study process for the Mid-Currituck Bridge in Currituck County, a seven-mile, two-lane toll project that would cross the Currituck Sound connecting the Currituck mainland at U.S. 158 near Aydlett with N.C. 12 on the Outer Banks south of Corolla. Last night Ocean Treasures in Corolla, NC we host to a visit from famed artist Wyland.
He stopped by for one day to sign autographs as part of his gallery tour to celebrate fifty years of painting. While there he created an original oil painting that her named "Atlantis Dolphin Day".
The evening ended with an auction for the painting where it went for $11,000.

Now here is question that I probably get asked more than any other. A lot of times it's not from strangers either, but people that I know and just seem to keep on checking that I haven't changed my mind on my lifestyle decision.

outer banks: Shipwreck found in Corolla, NC may be older than originally thought.

The shipwreck uncovered in on the beaches of Corolla, NC on the Outer Banks this past winter has been safely moved to historic Corolla Village, away from threat of the ocean. After taking time to study the remains of the wreckage, the ship which was once thought to be about 300 years old is now believed to be 400. At one point they thought that it was the HMS Swift that went down about 1698. Now archiologists believe that is could be Ghost from 1609.

As we come closer to Memorial Day and the unofficial kick-off of Summer, it is good to be reminded that there are rules to follow even when you are on vacation.
No matter where you are going, it is a good idea to find out what the local ordinances are. This will not insure the safety of your family, it will help ensure that your vacation is not ruined by a visit by one of the local law enforcement officers. :)

We ran out of the first batch of the 2010 tide charts in less than two months, and it's not even officially Summeryet. Anyone who has been to Carova, NC knows that driving conditions very with the tide. These tide charts are specific to the 4-Wheel Drive beaches of Carova and not the Oregon Inlet like many others. They hare now also New and Improved, giving out the tides in 12 hour time instead of 24 hour time. That is a question that i am hearing a lot all along the Outer Banks. Although it may be too early to say with certainty, there are many signs that indicate that appreciation may be in the works in Carova. Here are some of the stats so far:
-The number of sales in Carova for the 1st Quarter of 2010 were more than double what they were for 2009.
-Of the last 3 Oceanfront lots in Carova, each sold for more than the one before it.
-The last Semi-Oceanfront lot sold in Carova got the highest price since June 2009.
