Does this sound familar? You just bought a home it's days before closing and you get that last minute call, it's the lender!. They tell you, the underwriter reviewed your loan and everything looks O.K. But ... your home insurance policy you just bought is noit enough coverage. You respond back in panic "But that's what the insurance agent said it would cost to replace my home! " "You need to have at least the same amount of insurance coverage as your loan amount in order to close on time" your lender warns. When I first moved out to the SCV I remember learning about one of my old schoolmates who had also moved out here in the valley. I'm sure for all the same reasons most young families moved out here. I would soon learn tragically of his sudden death at the age of 37. I could not believe it, he was so young!. He had a great job at the studios, had recently married, was a new father and living what most would call the "American Dream". I learned one day he just collapsed at home and died. How was I to know, my neighbor up the way is a Granola Gourmet. Jeff Cohen approached me the other day with a see through plastic container filled with Brownie Granola bars. Of course he had my undivided attention at that point as he began to share with me the story behind this new business he created from his own kitchen. "Here try this, these bars are not only good, but they are good for you" Well he didn't have to ask me twice and I began to chew on the first of many Granola bars that evening. I finally made it into Maria's Deli in Newhall today after driving by hundreds of times wondering what the food was like each time. Well today was different I finally stopped in. I was greeted by Paul one of the young kids behind the counter taking orders who asked me what I wanted to order. I ordered a roast beef sandwich and browsed around the place. He asked me my name and immediately began addreessing me by first name.

I drove past Newhall Hardware and did a double take as I read the fluorescent signs pasted all over the front windows stating "Quitting business sale" WHAT!!
I almost crashed into the car ahead of me!! One of the oldest businesses in the Santa Clarita is going out of business. I still can't believe it. This was one of the few places you could still go where you could explain a project you were working on and get what you need. You could also count on some good advice on how to do it as well. If you like really good Mexican fast food then you have to visit Nicholas Ortiz at the Valencia marketplace and try his restaurant "Cabo Cabana" Baja Grill here in Valencia California. Cabo Cabana is located across from Michael's off of the Old Road here in the Santa Clarita valley.
By the way Cabo Cabana Baja Grill is located in the Valencia Marketplace which has it's own outdoor concerts with different musical acts and styles during the summer. I just finished reading a blog from Jeff Turner in which he described an encounter with a restaurant owner back east and it struck a nerve with me. It got me thinking about how I could make a difference in someone else's life just by sharing an experience I had with them. So I'm driving along listening to KHTS 1220 A.M. the hometown station here in Santa Clarita and they announced a local contest in which you vote for someone you think is a local hero.
