Summer Fun Contest: Some needed R&R

This is an entry for the Positive Attitude for the Weary Soul Group Contest! | Fun in the Sun While the Business Still Runs! Join in on the Challenge!

On June 9th, the day after school, my wife, kids, and I are packing up and heading back to where our home used to me in Floriday for some much needed R&R.

My family is wondering how I'll fare being away for a week or so. I'm not really sure myself. I will say that I have an amazing partner that I trust explicitly and have surrounded myself with some key people that have my company's best interests at heart, knowing that by taking care of the company, they will, in turn be taken care of.

I'll still have my computer, iPad and iPhone with me so that I know what's happening at all times, however, I'm going to do my best to delegate.

Many of you who are entreprenural know how tough that is!

While in S. Florida, we'll be visiting old friends and see our parents. We definitlely plan on a trip to the beach and hope it's not full of jellyfish like the last time!

FAQ's: What happens if I don't do anything?

In my business, there are many questions. I am in the business of Asset Recovery. Specifically dealing with money that cannot often be found through a normal (or any search) on the Internet.

A question asked of me often is “What happens if I don’t do anything?”

Our standard answer: “If you choose to take no action, the asset will remain unclaimed. In some states, if an asset is unclaimed for an extended period of time, it is often transferred to the state in which the asset resides negating any chances of recovery. This process is called Escheating.”

Remember, inaction is in and of itself a form of action. The state holding funds that may belong to you figures that after a period of time, if you don’t want the funds (whether you know about them or not) then, they, as a state can use that money for a higher purpose.

Notice that in the word escheating is the word CHEAT. The county and/or state that is holding your money doesn’t really want to give it back to you. They’re using those funds as they see fit and by you getting back YOUR money, you’re essentially taking out of their fund the use of that money.

It makes no difference to them that it’s yours.

In some instances it can take up to 36 months (depending on the state) to get paid. At Dictionary.com failure is said in the following manner:

2. nonperformance of something due, required, or expected: a failure to do what one has promised; a failure to appear.

5. a condition of being bankrupt by reason of insolvency.

Without them, where are you going? What are you working towards? Why even wake up?

I believe that failure is needed for a couple of reasons. While no one sets out to be a failure, I feel that it is important to fail so that you are able to appreciate success.

Failure also allows you to experience situations that could help you better to achieve the success that you want, while at the same time – it may have a humbling effect.

It also allows you to better understand those around you and what they are currently going through in business now and in the past.

More people will fail at something, then be successful – especially their first time out.

Therefore, I believe that, although no one sets out to be, Failure is and can be a necessary ingredient to ones success.

Our standard answer is: “The state invests these funds and makes interest off of the money they are holding. Usually, but not always, the interest made is used to help support the educational system of that state.”

Additionally, states are passing laws specific to different types of unclaimed funds as fast as they can, because they figure that if the person who is owed the money doesn’t claim it in a specific period of time, the state is going to take it.

Our standard answer: “U.S. Financial Funding's initial research leads us to believe that the funds discussed with you are still available. We ae willing to assume any and all risks associated with the collection of these funds."

Our company spends much time to acquire specialized lists that are usually not hidden throughout the Internet, but are held by close to 400 agencies around the country. After we make sure that the funds are held by the agency that says the funds are there, we then have to find the correct indivdual/individuals.

Our standard answer: “A Structured Settlement in transactions like ours is a term that usually refers to any deferred payment obligation resulting from the settlement of a claim. One of the questions asked of me often is “Is U.S. Financial Funding a collection agency?”

Our standard answer: “No, we are not a collection agency. A collection agency specializes in the collection of delinquent debt, whereas U.S. Financial Funding operates in direct contrast, specializing in locating and assisting individuals in receiving funds that are rightfully theirs.”

How can we be perceived as a collection agency when, in fact, our company wants the permission of the Claimant to be able to go after the funds and we’ll pay for everything – the attorneys, filing fees, court costs, notary, retainers, administrative fees, everything.

Ignorance: Daily Inspiration: May 14, 2012

Today’s word is Ignorance.

It’s amazes me when I look around in my business and find that people that are in my business take things at face value.

What if those around me read something wrong or were incorrectly taught? They, then start regurgitating what they have been told, believing themselves to be right, when, they could just as easily looked up the information that they were looking for and then, perhaps, understood it there way.

Many will say “so and so taught me that.” Sorry folks, it doesn’t mean that they are right about that specific thing.

In the end, it doesn’t take you long to find some of the things that you are looking for and want to learn on your own.

Don’t take everything at face value, do some due-diligence on your own.

If you don’t, you might wind up being perceived as ignorant. And perception, in many cases, can be just as bad as perception.

Don’t be ignorant. Find things out for yourself.

Sorry that I haven’t been around this week, many family obligations.

Today’s word is Believe.

Being in a niche business, I found it difficult to find a CRM/Tracking system that I could use with ease and simplicity for my business.

Yes, I found others that I could semi-customize, however, they just never seemed to work the way I needed them to for my business and I’ve tried over 10, highly rated systems and gave them all the “college try”.

I started writing down what I wanted in a system and before I knew it I had over 40 pages of information that was one hell of a system – if I could find it!

Well, that search was fruitless, so I reached out to the programming world (definitely alien to me) and found a group willing to create this system for me.

Everyone around me thought I was nuts and that I shouldn’t take on such an undertaking, however, I believed.

I believed that I needed the system to really make my company grow. Then I started thinking (which my wife tells me at times can be very dangerous!) that if I needed it, others would in my industry would too. So, I decided that I would have the system created specific for my industry and available on the web and cloud so that all in my business could benefit.

So, for the past year (yes, year), I’ve been working on my project on the side and I am happy to say that work started on it last week and this week I’ll actually see some of the pages.

What an amazing feeling knowing that something you believed in is actually coming to fruition. I’m so excited, that I feel as if I’m coming out of my skin.

By next week I’ll reveal more of it.

But for now, BELIEVE. Believe in what you do, believe in what you want to accomplish, believe in what you are doing, but most of all BELIEVE in yourself. You might surprise yourself at what you can accomplish.

Find a niche in what you do and learn everything that you can about it so that you will be the one that someone wants to go to when that subject comes up.

Become the authority (the best you can) on a specific subject.

When you stop learning, you might as well lie down and die.

Yesterday, I spoke about Persistence. I know that the two are almost exactly the same, however, I believe that with the slight differences of the two-you need both as you move forward in your life and in business.

I can tell you from recent experience that persistence is definitely paying off, but I couldn’t persist without perserverance!

Good Tuesday to you!

Today’s word is Persistence.

Many times, in my business of Asset Recovery I send out many emails, letters, and make phone calls. Most of the time people just don’t believe that they have ten’s of thousands of dollars out there that they don’t know about.

I have the credentials, testimonials, and everything is handled by attorneys, however, people just don’t believe. When I think about it, I understand.

I still do it everyday (especially because I enjoy what I do) and still go through the grind that it can be at times.

When someone doesn’t believe, which is most of the time, I will touch base with them for a few weeks and then move on while the thought percolates in their mind that they may actually have this money out there that they don’t know about.

Over the last two days, I have taken calls and solidified deals where I last spoke to the people almost a year ago. Periodically, I drop them an email or note, but that’s it.

It takes time but, Persistence, it pays off!
