Growing up, when asked "what does your father do for a living?" I proudly answered, "He's Smokey the Bear's helper."

 
My dad worked for the U.S. Forest Service at a time when conservation wasn't the hot topic that it is today so it was right up my alley to become an Ecobroker. One of the concepts that was new to me, or at least, new in terms of language was "daylighting."

Obvious economic savings from house designs that use natural lighting  include less use of electricity. Less apparent is how good you feel and how that might impact your productivity.

It's been all about the stimulus package, and that's good. Sellers can't forget about the basics and as spring weather has begun to poke out its head in the Mid-Atlantic region that means taking a look at your home through the lens of a camera.
Those photos on your realtor's web site, realtor.com, Trulia, and all the others can make or break whether the buyers wants to look fourther - online or in person.

On some level, though, everyone does their best no matter what. The level may change depending on the mindset, phsyical conditios you name it . Even if we are sloughing off, we may be doing our best to slough off.

Growing up in the Midwest, I remember  the Buster Brown shoe store and making Valentine's Day cards by hand from red and pink construction paper and paper doilies. It was a grand thing, what with cupcakes decorated with conversations hearts.
Today's research led me to vinegar valentines, a custom of paper insults given on February 14 and even memorialized in the Calvin and Hobbs Cartoon series.
Calvin often gives Susie vinegar valentines to cloak his true affections.

One of the surprising elements of writing an offer in Pennsylvania, as well as in other states,for some first-time home buyers is the custom of Earnest  or Good Faith Deposit Money.

Here's what's in the economic stimulus bill before Congress that could help you if you are thinking of buying a home in the next year.
The latest version includes a  $15,000 tax credit or 10% of the home's purchase price (whichever is lower). The credit applies to all buyers - not just first-time homebuyers. There are no income limits.

I admit it. I woke up this morning feeling less than steller, insecure.  And one of my daily readings is about the power of affirmations,
How the he words we speak and think hold great sway over the kind of life that we create for ourselves. Many people including moi, can  live their lives plagued by negative thoughts and never even realize this.

Let's dust if off one year later, what's your favorite real estate site, or what sites are you recommending to clients and friends?
We all know that realtor. com, the  official site of the National Association of Realtors, has the most inventory but is not the most up to date. Trulia  and Zillow  list  recently sold properties  along with graphs showing how that house compares with similar homes. It also gives you the year built, square footage and sales history. Problem wtih these sites can be accuracy so consumer beware.

Bill Moyer's Journal s one of the bright spots on TV and last night's discussion wth NYU journalism professor and PressThink blogger Jay Rosen and political journalist and Salon.com blogger Glenn Greenwald was outstanding.
These two conclude that  the establishment in DC has a surprising army of defenders - the political press. Once seen as an agent for change - the "fourth estate"  which is suppose to balance out  power in America - has become part of the establishment, and  its own existence thrives on preserving that status quo.

The Kennett Area YMCA is my home away from home. I've been a volunteer there nearly 10 years and have taught myrad kinds of classes, for the last 4 years, it's been yoga.
There is such a positive"can do" attitude there and truly customer service consistently always ranks very high in member surveys. The facilities, located at 101 Race Street in Kennett are some of the nicest in the countyr - towel service and babysitting are free with a memberhisp! And memberhip is on a sliding scale. Everyone I know is becoming much better about using refillable plastic water bottles instead of buying cases of bottle water and adding to all that plastic mess. But what about other areas of our homes like the bathroom. About 50-60% of our household water supply via the bathroom - showers, toilets and tubs.
To lessen the use, there are a few areas to consider.
Everyone loves a long hot shower, but what is that costing you? Some of the newer system use 80 gallons per minute.  Federal guidelines for a single head shower require 2.5 gallons per minute or less, but … (16 comments)

The most inexpensive way to redecorate is move your furniture around. If you're getting ready to list your house, you might even remove some furniture to allow more space for buyers and friends to roam around. But, for fun and a new look, try using lamps from one room in another, or a small scatter rug change up.
