A Lurid Tale of Cutting and Hacking, sounds like the description of a low budget horror movie or just another day in the life of a Connecticut home inspector.
Power tools have sure made construction easier and more efficient...if used correctly. Because they can be almost effortless to use, simply switch them on and go at it, this leaves ample opportunity for the tool user to do some interpretive construction design.

She felt a sense of pride when she looked at her finished work.

The definition well explains the feeling, the sense of human pride and yet it seems to be lost, taken over at times by another human emotion; greed.

A train wreck conjures visions of mayhem and twisted metal. In a figurative sense we use it as a metaphor to describe something so bad it defies description. Train wreck would accurately describe the home I had the not so good fortune of inspecting recently. This was the home of a professional contractor. A guy who makes his living building things like additions, decks and bathrooms. This guy needs to seek another career.
