denver: Feeling Bad for Barack Obama - 08/07/08 07:44 AM

As we here in Denver are preparing for the Democratic National Convention, I got to thinking about poor Senator Barack Obama. This man is running for President of the United States. Why would I be feeling bad for him?
1. He has to live in Washington D. C. I know Washington D. C. is a beautiful city, as a matter of fact, I've visited a couple of times and would love to go back. But, it is not Denver. (Here is where the disclosure comes in. I'm a Colorado native so I may be a bit biased.)
2. If Mr. Obama ends … (9 comments)

denver: Denver's Bohemian Rhapsody - 05/29/07 08:51 PM
As a place for young singles from 25-29, the Denver area ranked second across the country per Kiplinger's latest report on Best Places to Live. One of the selection criteria included the Bohemian Indicator. Denver scored a 117, with a national average index of 100. Washington D.C. was the top selection.
What is a Bohemian Indicator? Kiplinger says it "shows the concentration of writers, designers, musicians, actors and other arts-related personnel, and is a comparative measure of an area's diversity and cultural amenities."
Denver, and the surrounding metropolitan area, scored as follows:
Population:   2,327,901

denver: Take a Walk Lowry Style - 04/30/07 11:24 PM
The sun, setting over the mountains, and the sound of birds painted the backdrop for my Sunday walk. It had been a glorious day in Denver, lots of people out enjoying the warm spring weather. Just thinking about it made me smile. I love taking Sunday evenings for myself and this last weekend, it was a fabulous walk along the Westerly Creek Dam.
If you are looking for a little space and a great view, treat yourself this week and stop by Lowry, the former Denver Air Force Base. Drive north on Fairmount Drive from Alameda Avenue just past the AMLI Apartment Complex and turn right on Sports Avenue. Find … (4 comments)

denver: Seven Reasons I Love Living in Denver - 04/07/07 09:35 AM
I've had the pleasure of living in the Denver area for more than 40+ years. I can't imagine living anyplace else. Here is why I love living, working and playing in Denver.
1. Weather- Last year, Denver had 300+ days of sunshine. The snow falls and usually melts within a few days. If you are looking to get out of the rain and high humidity, Denver is the place to be. Since the snow melted from our holiday storms, it has been amazing weather. Interested in the current forecast?
2. Seasons- Denver has all four seasons. Spring brings new growth, daffodils and tulips and … (7 comments)

denver: Counting Down to the Democrats - 04/06/07 07:07 PM
Denver was selected earlier this year to host the 2008 Democratic National Convention. Regardless of who you want for our next President, this could be a historical moment and Denver will set the stage.
St. Paul, Minnesota was selected to host the Republicans in 2008. "Get Ready for the Republicans" is an article that Teresa Boardman, a Minnesota Realtor, wrote on her blog. Teresa is encouraging her readers to think about how the event might impact the sale of their homes. She is on the right track.
We are going to have thousands of visitors August 25-28, 2008. We will also have … (2 comments)

denver: Is the Sky Falling on the Denver Real Estate Market? - 04/06/07 08:37 AM
We've seen the headlines preaching doom and gloom for our real estate market.
Did you know that last year was the third highest number on record for single family home sales in the history of the Denver metro area?
I don't recall seeing that information on the news.
Back in 1999 when I sold my last home, the house was on the market for only three days before it was under contract. That year, buyers had to see a house as soon as it hit the market or it would be sold before they got in the front door. Is that a great market? Sellers say yes, buyers, no. … (2 comments)

denver: Winning the Weed Wars- Creating Beautiful and Water Saving Denver Landscapes - 04/05/07 10:03 AM
Does it seem like the weeds are winning the war?
Just a few years ago when the drought was at its peak, it was amazing to see brown yards with the healthiest weeds I've ever seen. Those weeds seem to still hang on despite our best efforts. Is this finally the year to tackle the weeds and work on your landscaping? Have you checked out all the books, purchased your gloves and given your gardening tools a spit shine?
There are numerous classes this time of year that shouldn't be missed if you are determined to win the war against the weeds. At … (0 comments)

When the time comes to sign on the dotted line to buy and/or sell your house, you will be working with contracts developed and approved by the Colorado Division of Real Estate, although there may be a few exceptions. The division's mission is "to promote a balanced and sensible approach to regulation that protects the public interest and supports economic growth." As part of this mission, they review contracts annually and make any needed modification based on input from the public and a variety of other sources. Are there sections that are confusing or are complaints being made in certain areas … (2 comments)
