Mortgage Interest Rates Creep Just a Little Higher Due to Higher Bond Yields - 07/30/09 09:03 PM
Today 7/30/09 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 5.25% (5.19% in the southeast), up from 5.20% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.69%, up from 4.68% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 6.52%. The yield for bonds went up and the interest rates for mortgage rates played "Follow the Leader" it would seem. Some feel that the economy may be becoming more stable and that made the bond yields go up. The Federal Reserve said that even though the home market (0 comments)
Mortgage Interest Rates Just Creep Up a Bit - 07/24/09 03:35 PM
Yesterday 7/23/09 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 5.20% (5.14% in the southeast), up from 5.14% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.68%, up from 4.63% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 6.63%. Not much to crow about at all. Just minor fluctuations. Federal Reserve Chairman Bernanke said that mortgage rates were lower than last fall and that housing affordability had not been this good in years. They said there were some positive signs that perhaps the worst was behind us. Home prices declined (0 comments)
Main Street Zephyrhills has notified me that in less than a month Zephyrhills, Florida will be taking part in the National Night Out celebration. It will take place in the downtown area on 5th Avenue from 6 PM to 9 PM on August 4th.
Last year the street was blocked off to vehicular traffic, and I suspect it will be again this year. That makes it much easier for people to wander wherever they like without having to worry about getting runover. Many local merchants and organizations had booths up and down the avenue. And quite a (2 comments)
Now Find REALTOR John Elwell of Zephyrhills on FaceBook - 07/18/09 11:17 PM
Many of you have probably heard about FaceBook. It is an internet site where you can connect with new friends and find old ones you have lost track of. I found friends I had known in Spain and some from back in New York State. Both you and they can leave notes as to what is going on in their lives and others can comment on them. For example, I found out that my old school teacher was in the hospital and was able to have her son wish her well. You can also post those photos of the kids or (2 comments)
Mortgage Interest Rates Go Down Again! Good For Buyers & Sellers! - 07/16/09 01:46 PM
Today 7/16/09 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 5.14% (5.11% in the southeast), down from 5.20% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.63%, down from 4.69% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 6.26%. A Freddie Mac spokesperson said that the reduction in rates since the start of June 2009 would mean that a person with a $200,000, 30 year, fixed-rate loan would pay $56 less each month with the current lower rates. Even though energy costs were up slightly, compared to the (0 comments)
HGTV Rolls Out a New Show That Can Help Home Sellers - 07/11/09 11:03 AM
I just saw a new television show on Home & Garden Television, aka HGTV. It is called Real Estate Intervention. From what I observed this program can show home sellers where they are going wrong when their properties are languishing on the market month after month. Since I work in this business it was interesting to see the lady on the first show saying the same things that I hear all the time. Basically she had an unrealistic view of her own home as it was compared to other homes in her neighborhood that were her competition in the market place. (1 comments)
Average Mortgage Interest Rates Fall a Little More This Week - 07/09/09 01:48 PM
Today 7/09/09 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 5.20% (5.19% in the southeast), down from 5.32% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.69%, down from 4.77% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 6.37%. This is the lowest rates have been in six weeks. There is concern over the labor market and this contributed to the continued fall in interest rates this week. Our economy lost 467,000 jobs in June and this was a little more than had been expected by (0 comments)
Unlicensed Real Estate Agent Operating in Zephyrhills, Florida - Be Careful! - 07/08/09 01:19 PM
It has been brought to my attention from several sources that we again have an unlicensed person in one of our subdivisions who is charging home sellers to market their homes. While it is perfectly legal for you to sell your OWN home, you cannot sell another person's residence for him. As I have reported before, this is a serious crime in Florida, a third degree FELONY. Below are some excerpts from our state's statutes. 475.42 Violations and penalties.-- (1) VIOLATIONS.-- (a) A person may not operate as a broker or sales associate without being the holder of a valid and current active (0 comments)
How Effectively Is Your Agent Using the Internet to Market Your Property? - 07/08/09 12:17 PM
These are just some of the internet sites that I use when I advertise my listings. Some are sites I pay for and maintain, and others are sites that I have discovered over the years. Keep in mind that many of these also broadcast my ads to even more sites. For example, when I place an ad on The Real Estate Book site, it also will appear on the Lycos, Oodle, and the Bob Villa websites. Do not be confused. If you ask most real estate agents, they will say that they DO have a webpage or advertise on the web. However, (0 comments)

Freddie Mac Reports Average Mortgage Interest Rates Drop a Bit More This Week - 07/02/09 01:38 PM
Today 7/02/09 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 5.32% (5.26% in the southeast), down from 5.42% a week ago. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 4.77%, down from 4.87% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 6.35%. The lower rates we are seeing are a big help for the housing market. That could explain why the sales of existing homes was up lately. Since rates have gone down for the past two weeks, this has helped spur people to think about refinancing their existing loans. From (2 comments)
