Today, 5/31/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.75%, down from 3.78% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.97%, down from 3.04% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.60%. The market just keeps getting better and better for buyers. And for sellers too since lower rates mean more people qualify to buy their properties. On June 1st the 2012 Hurricane Season began. Let's hope that this year will be a quiet one. Though it would be nice is some mild tropical storms or depressions would swing by to drop off some much needed rain here in Florida.
The National Hurricane Center has a hurricane tracking map that you can download in PDF format. Print it up, put it on your fridge or bulletin board, and you can monitor any storms that might be approaching our area. Kind of fun to do as long as the storms do not get too close.

Frequently buyers fail to realize that there is more to an offer than just the sales price. Deposits, closing dates, demands for closing costs, repair limits, or just plain buyer likeability play roles.
I have had sellers pick buyers who were offering less just because both wives were into quilting and the seller wife knew that the buyer wife would enjoy and preserve her special craft room. Today, 5/24/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.78%, down from 3.79% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.04%, unchanged from last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.60%. Even though the drop was not much, it still is a new record and is moving in a direction that many buyers and sellers will appreciate. Yesterday, 5/10/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.83%, down from 3.84% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.05%, down from 3.07% from last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.63%.
Not since 1951 have rates been this low! Since early December 2011 the average interest rate for 30 fixed-rate mortgages has been below 4% for all but 1 week.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – May 9, 2012 – The Florida Department of Health (DOH) unveiled a new website designed to help Floridians and local governments understand new septic tank requirements outlined in House Bill 1263, which the Florida Legislature passed earlier this year. Yesterday, 5/3/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.84%, down from 3.88% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.07%, down from 3.12% from last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.71%. Not since 1951 have rates been this low! That was before I was born! Wow!
