This year the Zephyrhills, Florida Founders Day Celebration will take place in downtown Zephyrhills on March 10th from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM, with the day's parade starting at 10:00 AM. This will be the 102nd time that this event has taken place here. So there is some history behind it!
This year's theme is: Unsung Heroes of Zephyrhills: Past and Present. The organizers of the day define an "unsung hero" as "a person who makes a substantive yet unrecognized contribution. Or an unsung hero is a person whose bravery is unknown or unacknowledged."

55 plus: Freddie Mac: Average Mortgage Interest Rates Return to Record Low Levels! - 02/02/12 01:37 PM
Today, 2/2/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.87%, down sharply from 3.98% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.14%, down from 3.24% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.81%!
After taking a big jump last week, interest rates settled down to about the same levels they were at two weeks ago. Record lows. Lower than expected growth in the economy for the 4th quarter of 2011 was the cause of the drop. Consumer spending in December was also "flat".

I was once listing a property and checked on its 55+ status at the state's Florida Commision of Human Relations website. I saw that their designation as a 55+ park was due to expire in just a few weeks! I spoke with the park's secretary, and she was unaware of this fact! This often happens as new board members get voted in. It is easy to overlook deadlines and I am told that Florida does not send out warnings that your registration is about to expire. If you have been watching the news over this past weekend, many inches of snow have fallen along the northeast coast of the United States. Our kids have not yet gone "trick or treating" and yet there is snow on the ground. I remember hearing about "frost on the pumpkins", but this is ridiculous. Here is a picture that one of my FaceBook friends, Bill Quackenbush, took of his corner of New York State. Beautiful, to be sure. But cold and slippery.

As I finish up my Christmas celebrations here with family and friends, on CNN and other cable channels I can see what is happening up north. Does this picture look familiar to any of you? If not, it probably soon will be a reality. I know from experience having spent 27 years in western New York State. A white Christmas was nice, but after that some warm weather and sunshine were welcome.
Today here in Zephyrhills between Tampa and Orlando it was a very comfortable 75º F. Not a snow shovel or ice scrapper in sight. If you are thinking of … (0 comments)
