Today, 8/16/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.62%, up from last week when it was 3.59%. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.88%, up from 2.84% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.15%.

Today, 8/9/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.59%, up from last week when it was 3.55%. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.84%, up from 2.83% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.32%. Two weeks ago I asked if we had finally reached a "bottom". Now we have had two weeks in a row of increases! The rates could not keep going down forever and perhaps we have found the low point finally. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.80%, down from 2.83% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.55%. Two weeks ago I asked if we had finally reached a "bottom". The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.86%, down from 2.89% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.51%. Last week I asked if we had finally reached a "bottom". Apparently not. I have some buyers who are looking for financing, and I hope that they are lucky enough to be able to take advantage of these historically low interest rates. Today, 6/28/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.66%, unchanged last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.94%, down slightly from 2.95% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.51%. Last week I said, "Makes you wonder if the rates are going to hover around this area for some time." I guess I was right, at least for one week anyway!

The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.95%, down from 2.98% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.50%. Today, 6/14/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.71%, up from 3.67% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.98%, up from 2.94% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.50%. You had to wonder when things would turn around. Rates could not continue to drop forever. The question is, is this just a temporary upswing, or are we in for an extended period of gradual increases? We will just have to wait and see.
