Today, 8/8/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.40% up from 4.39% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.43%, unchanged from last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.59%.
It appears that we are in somewhat of a holding pattern with interest rates holding steady again for a third week. Uncertain economic news seems to be the factor that is keeping the rates from making more definitive moves. century 21: Average Mortgage Interest Rates Teeter Back-and-Forth Lately

Today, 8/1/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.39% up from 4.31% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.43%, up from 3.39% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.55%.
Rates seem to be hovering around the same spot for the past few weeks. Still very low and they make homes more affordable for those who qualify with their credit histories. But as almost always happens, as the market continues to recover, so do prices.

Today, 7/18/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.31% down from 4.37% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.39%, down from 3.41% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.49%.
So, another week with a small drop in rates. But I would not "bet the farm" that we are going to see them get back to the 3.6% range any time soon. That ship has probably sailed. That said, the current rates are nothing to sneeze at and look very cheap compared to those of less … (0 comments)

Today, 7/18/2013, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.37% down from 4.51% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.41%, down from 3.53% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.53%.
Even though rates are still well above the LOW levels they were just a few weeks ago, at least the rapid upward movement has abated a bit this week. Maybe this is just a "breather" or perhaps we are at a plateau where we will hover around the 4.5% level for a while. There is little … (0 comments)

Today, 7/11/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.51% up from 4.29% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.53%, up from 3.39% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.56%.
So after falling back a little last week after the large jump of the previous week, not average mortgage interest rates are right back up around the 4.5% mark for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage products. Today, 7/3/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.29% up from 4.46% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.39%, up from 3.50% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.62%.

Today, 6/27/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 4.46% up from 3.93% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.50%, up from 3.04% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.66%.
Yesterday, I posted that this huge leap in rates was not unexpected and had been rumored since very late last week. If you recall, last week there was no "commentary" from a Freddie Mac spokesperson, as had always been the case. Even right now, last weeks press release has no commentary. Today, 6/20/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.93% down from 3.98% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.04%, down from 3.10% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was Unavailable.
What is going to happen now. The steady upward march of rates has stopped, at least for this week. Though most experts say that in the long run this year, rates will continue to rise to higher levels.

On June 1st the 2013 Hurricane Season began. Let's hope that this year will be a quiet one. Though it would be nice is some mild tropical storms or depressions would swing by to drop off some much needed rain here in Florida.
The National Hurricane Center has a hurricane tracking map that you can download in PDF format. Print it up, put it on your fridge or bulletin board, and you can monitor any storms that might be approaching our area. Kind of fun to do as long as the storms do not get too close.

Today, 6/6/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.91% up from 3.81% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.03%, up from 2.98% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.67%.

Today, 5/30/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.81% up from 3.59% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.98%, up from 2.77% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.75%.
This is the 4th week of increases so it very well could be that instead of seeing steady decreases week-after-week, we will now see increases. And this week's increase was not so "slight". Today, 5/16/2013 Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgage was 3.51% up from 3.42% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 2.69%, up from 2.61% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 3.79%.
