In Spain, where I lived for 12 wonderful years, they celebrate Mothers' Day two weeks ahead of us here in the USA. But the sentiments are the same. To show appreciation to those women, without whom, none of us would be here.

We certainly had a better year in 2011 than we had had since the start of the recession. Many retirees looking for vacation or retirements homes, and many local buyers who wanted to take advantage of the low prices and VERY low mortgage interest rates. As a consequence, my sales improved. Not to the levels we had back in the mid 2000's, but we are getting there. And we are hearing more and more good news about our economy and that bodes well for 2012!

homes: Interest Rates for 30 Year Fixed-Rate Mortgages Reach New Record Lows - 01/19/12 04:59 PM
Today, 1/19/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.88%, down from 3.89% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.17%, up from 3.16% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.74%!
Even though the drop was minimal and the average rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages inched upward, the fact that the rates have stayed below 4% for so long is good for buyers who want to keep short-term and long-term costs down, and also for sellers who want motivated buyers.

Freddie Mac released their weekly report a day early this week due to the Thanksgiving Day holiday. So, today, 11/23/2011, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.98%, down from 4.00% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.30%, down from 3.31% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.40%.

As of today, 9/2/2011, Hurricane Katia is still far out in the Atlantic Ocean. Its projected path has it moving in a northwesterly direction, but it appears that they think it may curve more to the west around next Wednesday, some 5 days away. That is a long way off in the life of a hurricane, so anything is possible. But this storm bears watching. Keep yourselves up-to-date via the internet, TV, and radio. One of my colleagues recently showed me a letter she had received from a mortgage broker that an agent from another brokerage had sent her. The other agent had a buyer for one of my friend's properties. The broker stated that to get the financing the seller would have to contribute 6% to the buyer's closing costs and make a 6% contribution to one of the "funds or organizations" that is supposed to help people get into their own homes. The buyer was going to have to contribute very little.
