Today, 2/9/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.87%, unchanged from last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.16%, up slightly from 3.14% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 5.05%!
Strong employment figures in January 2012 tended to push up many mortgage interest rates, However, the 30 year fixed-rate average interest was unchanged from last week and remains at historically low levels for a second week.

Today, 1/26/2012, Freddie Mac reported that the average mortgage interest rate for 30 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.98%, up sharply from 3.88% last week. The average interest rate for 15 year fixed-rate mortgages was 3.24%, up from 3.17% last week. A year ago the 30 year rate was 4.80%!
Even though rates did go up for both 30 year and 15 year fixed-rate mortgages, the fact is that the rates have stayed below 4% for quite a while. That is good for buyers who want to keep short-term and long-term costs down, and also for sellers who want motivated buyers.

I don't want to brag, but here in Florida it was a mild 80 degrees here until just a little while ago when we got some rain showers. But here our precipitation does not pile up. It just soaks into the ground. Snow shovels have no place here.

As regular as the sunrises in the east, a major wave of arrivals from the north has begun. This always happens just after Thanksgiving. Many "snowbirds" like to celebrate that holiday with their families up north.
But there is now "frost on the pumpkins" and the trees have dropped their leaves. That tells our winter residents it is time to head south to warmer climes and sunnier days. We are ready for them!

A couple of days ago I was on my way to work. I take North Avenue and continue on to Geiger Road, then left on Eiland Boulevard. Just as I had passed the Post Office, I saw a car pulled over by one of our city police officers. Then when I got to Eiland, I looked to my right and a different officer had pulled over yet another car. In both cases, it was most likely for going over the posted speed limit.
