boulder colorado: Colorado Fires Nearly Contained - 09/13/10 07:07 PM
Colorado Fires Nearly Contained The Fourmile Canyon fire in Boulder is nearly 90% contained. Officials are now investigating the possibility that the fire may have started in a resident’s fire pit that was not fully extinguished. Meanwhile, a few miles north the Loveland fire also seems to be under control after burning 900 acres. The fire started on Sunday morning. Fortunately, the crews and resources from the Boulder fire were quickly able to get the upper hand on that one. Although the fires are mostly under control heavy aircraft are still flying overhead throughout the day. Hopefully, life will get back

boulder colorado: Boulder Sunrise—We’re Still Here 9-8-10 - 09/08/10 09:10 PM
Boulder Sunrise—We’re Still Here 9-8-10 Here are some sunrise photos from Boulder this morning. I was up on the side of the mountain around 6am. The smell of smoke from the forest fire was extra strong this morning but it wasn’t until I got up on the mountain that I could see how thick the blanket of smoke really was. The ‘inversion layer’ caused the smoke to drop close to the ground in the cool night air. As the sun came up the smoke started to rise and it became even more difficult to breathe.

boulder colorado: Rain in Boulder - 09/08/10 08:05 PM
Rain in Boulder It’s raining in Boulder. Ordinarily that would be no big news but for the 300+ firefighters and the many people displaced by the Fourmile Canyon fire, it’s a much needed relief. The rain is not super hard but at this point anything is better than nothing. The sheriff’s department updated figures today reporting 140 structures destroyed and 54 damaged. Four people are still reported missing. boulder colorado: Boulder Fourmile Canyon Fire Update - 09/07/10 01:52 AM
Boulder Fourmile Canyon Fire Update This afternoon I watched as the sky grew orange and the sun was masked by the dense smoke from the wildfire. Around 4:30 I drove to Settler's Park and was turned away. I then drove to Lost Gultch above Flagstaff where over 100 people had gathered. It was a horrific scene. I have never seen anything quite like it. With my binoculars I witnessed 8-10 structures go up in flames. Eventually, the tankers flew in and began dropping fire retardant, but it hardly seemed to make a difference--the fire continued to grow for the 3 hours

boulder colorado: Boulder Colorado Sunrise 8-27-10 - 08/29/10 06:08 PM
Boulder Colorado Sunrise 8-27-10 I went for an early morning bike ride on Friday. It was my first ride since climbing to Chasm Lake near Long’s Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. I am now training to cycle Trail Ridge in the Park which is an intense climb up above 12,000 feet. Friday morning was a beautiful sunrise. I stopped along Hwy. 36 a few miles north of Boulder in an area with a broad horizon. I took a couple of dozen photos as the sun was rising. Here are a few of the better ones.

boulder colorado: A River Runs Through Me… - 08/23/10 05:34 PM
A River Runs Through Me… One of my favorite places to go in Boulder to be close to nature is Boulder Creek which runs right through the middle of town. A trail runs right along beside the water. There are a few places along the trail where you can step on the rocks and walk out into the middle of the water. There is one place in particular where I enjoy going to sit. The water runs all around the rock I sit on. As I look up at the water coming toward me the feeling is that the river

boulder colorado: A Bee Fountain - 08/23/10 04:58 PM
A Bee Fountain At the water fountain near the flower garden at Columbine Unity Church in Boulder Colorado on Saturday there seemed to be a Bee Fest going on. Our men’s group had an early morning pancake breakfast. No one knows who invited the bees but they came in force. I noticed at least three different types: honey bees, yellow jackets and wasps. Fortunately, they seemed more interested in the water than our pancake syrup. Boulder Green Built Homes For Sale Contact Me Today For More Information Or Call Me @ 720-771-5594

boulder colorado: Sunflowers - 08/20/10 07:56 PM
Sunflowers I took the photos below at the Boulder Farmer’s Market. I was surprised to see such a variety of different types of sunflowers. Frankly, I didn’t even know they came in any variety other than the standard yellow. Sunflowers are truly an amazing plant. The capture the energy of the sun and then display its beauty back to us in such an extraordinary way. It’s like the face of nature smiling back at us. boulder colorado: Good Morning Boulder - 08/11/10 06:52 PM
Good Morning Boulder I was out early this morning on a bike ride just north of Boulder and caught the sunrise. I tried a couple of different settings on the zoom and all of them seemed to come out okay—just different. I am starting to gather quite a collection of Boulder sunrise photography. It was especially beautiful this morning because of the clouds scattering the light. I finished the 35 mile ride and was back home before 8am. boulder colorado: Edible Flowers? - 08/10/10 11:45 PM
Edible Flowers? I went to the Boulder Farmer’s Market on Saturday and took lots of photos of people, food and flowers. There was one group of flowers that had such a rich arrangement of shape and color that they almost looked edible. The colors of the flowers bring up thoughts of a juicy grape or cranberry like flavor--yummy to look at and heavenly to smell. Boulder Farmer’s Market The Boulder Farmer’s Market is a great place to find fresh produce. The market is well known for having a wide variety of organic fruits and vegetables in addition to a selection of freshly baked breads, and local wine. The market is held on 13th Street between Arapahoe and Canyon right next to the Park in downtown Boulder. Boulder Creek runs nearby. The market is open on Saturdays between 8am and 2pm from until November 6th. It’s also open on Wednesdays from 4pm to 8pm through October 6. There is a large food court with lots of goodies

boulder colorado: Flowers in the Early Morning - 08/03/10 07:48 PM
Flowers in the Early Morning I set off on an early morning bike ride this morning. I was late leaving at around 5:45 am but managed to finish one of my stronger rides. As I headed up Lee Hill Drive out of Boulder toward Jamestown, I stopped to photograph some flowers. It was cloudy so it was still quite dark. The flash came on and gave me a few good shots of the flowers. I didn’t notice the bugs on the yellow flowers until I looked at the pictures. Boulder Green Built Homes For Sale

boulder colorado: Mystery Rider in the Shadow - 07/31/10 11:04 PM
Mystery Rider in the Shadow On one of my bicycle rides up in the mountains above Boulder this past week I photographed the shadow of the mountain against the rising sun. There is a great contrast that comes out in the photo. I remember thinking how it represents the co-existence of the shadow and the light within us all. A happy and productive life is all about finding balance between the two. The sun raised up above the mountain ridge a short time after I took the photo. It wasn’t too long after that before I was on the dirt

boulder colorado: Boulder Colorado Sunrise Bike Ride - 07/29/10 12:46 AM
Boulder Colorado Sunrise Bike Ride Boulder Colorado is one of the most bicycle friendly communities in the country. There are bike paths and bike lanes going in nearly every direction all over town. Just about everywhere you go you’ll people of all ages on bikes. One of my favorite rides is to go north on hwy 36 in the very early morning. I like to leave early because it’s super quiet and there is very little traffic. As an added bonus I frequently enjoy the morning sunrise. This morning the Boulder Colorado Sunrise was spectacular. I stopped a few miles

boulder colorado: Boulder Recreational Center Yoga Class - 07/27/10 09:29 PM
Boulder Recreational Center Yoga Class I had an interesting experience in yoga class this morning at the North Boulder Recreational Center. The instructor, Ravi Dykema, who is a extraordinarily gifted yoga teacher, led the class as one continuous, harmonious flow. It was wonderful, even blissful at times. I completely lost track of time and felt myself immersed in a joyous sensation of being in the moment. At one point Ravi described how Yoga is about sensing into the body to become aware of where we are contracting and then to relax the contraction. His explanation was simple yet profound. Our

boulder colorado: Rocky Mountain Flowers - 07/20/10 07:12 PM
Rocky Mountain Flowers I was up for a drive in the mountains a few days ago and stopped to photograph some mountain flowers. I’m not sure of the elevation but I believe it was just over 6,000 feet. I had never recognized any of the three flowers shown here before. There is something mysterious about not knowing what kind of flowers they are. It feels like total surrender to their beauty. Or then again, maybe I am just making excuses for my ignorance. Either way, they are quite beautiful nonetheless. The mystery of the unknown prevails.
