Colorado Energy Efficiency Finance Summit
I am a member of the Colorado Retrofit Working Group Finance Committee at the Governor’s Energy Office (GEO). Yesterday we held a Finance Summit with the intent of gathering bankers, investors and industry leaders together to discuss the need for financial solutions for the emerging market for Energy Efficient homes and buildings. The summit was held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel on 15th Street in downtown Denver.

The Home Star program is well on its way to becoming official legislation. An outgrowth of Vice President Biden’s Retrofit America program announced last October, the Home Star program is rapidly gaining momentum. The program is designed to provide incentives to homeowners to make energy efficient upgrades in their home. The program will be implemented on the state and local levels.

This is an outstanding post on Energy Efficient 'Green Mortgages' by Jerry Rouleau.
Energy Efficient mortgages are extremely important for those of us promoting sustainable practices in real estate. The legacy EE mortgages from the Carter era left a lot of folks turned off.
But like Jerry says, there are some good programs out there. Green home buyers will benefit from taking advantage of an EE mortgage.
Education is key to expanding the green home morket. Let's all try to get the word out every chance we get that EE mortgages

Green Homes Are The Future And The Future is Now...
Forty percent of all the energy used in our country is consumed by homes and buildings. That’s 25% more than all the energy consumed by the 60+ million vehicles on the road (U.S. Department of Transportation). That alone is enough to consider a green home.
The average home releases 22,000 pounds of Carbon Dioxide emissions every year which is twice as much as the average car.
So what is the solution?
How about a green home and a hybrid vehicle

Real Estate Recovery Through Retrofit
On Tuesday 20 October, Vice President Biden announced a Federal program to retrofit existing homes and buildings to make them more energy efficient. The intention, as described in the ‘Recovery Through Retrofit Report’ released on the same day is to help create ‘green sector’ jobs while addressing an important environmental issue greenhouse emissions.
Approximately twenty percent of the United States carbon dioxide emissions are generated by the nation’s 130 million homes. The programs goals are to reduce home energy use by 40% by 2020 which would lower greenhouse gas emissions by up to 160 million metric … (8 comments)
