nature photos: Happy Llamas - 09/13/10 10:47 PM
Happy Lamas On my Saturday morning bicycle ride I encountered a field full of lamas. It was a beautiful sight after so many smoke filled days and after not being able to ride for a week. Lamas seem like such peaceful and happy creatures. They don’t really make any noise and just meander around eating the grass. I know they are raised for their wool but they seem to make nice pets too. Boulder Green Built Homes For Sale Contact Me Today For More Information Or Call Me @ 720-771-5594 Search More Denver and

nature photos: Trail Ridge Road Bike Ride in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park (Part 3/3) - 09/03/10 10:52 PM
Trail Ridge Road Bike Ride in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park (Part 3/3) This is the third set of photos on my ride up Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. There was road work just before the Alpine Visitor Center which is where I turned around. There was about a 20 minute wait for construction equipment on arrival and about 5 minutes on departure. The ride down was quite dangerous at times as I picked up speed. The wind gusts made it challenging to keep control of the bike. . I had a couple of close calls but managed to

nature photos: Trail Ridge Road Bike Ride in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park (Part 2/3) - 09/02/10 11:18 PM
Trail Ridge Road Bike Ride in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park (Part 2/3) This is the second set of photos of my ride up Trail Ridge Road in Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. The total distance was just over 54 miles with nearly 5 hours of ride time. This photo set starts just above the tree line around 11,000 feet. After leaving the Rainbow Curve vista, the wind picked up. Within a few miles above the tree line, the wind was absolutely brutal. It was a combination head-wind and side-wind. The temperature was around 45 degrees so it was cold too.

nature photos: Trail Ridge Road Bike Ride in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park (Part 1/3) - 09/02/10 09:07 PM
Trail Ridge Road Bike Ride in Rocky Mountain Nat’l Park (Part 1/3) Yesterday I rode my bicycle up Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park. It was a 50 mile ride round trip that took me up above 12,000 feet. That’s a 5,000 foot climb from where I started at the Este’s Park visitor center. This is the first set of three sets of photos I will post. In this set I capture the climb up to the tree line which is around 11,000 feet. Some of the photos show the road I came up and the valley where

nature photos: Chasm Lake Creatures - 08/30/10 06:38 PM
Chasm Lake Creatures Last week I hiked up to Chasm Lake near Long’s Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. After a four and a half hour hike to get to the lake, I decided to stay there for a while. While there I encountered a couple of interesting creatures. One is an obvious chipmunk but I am not sure what the other one is. I am curious if anyone has any idea what this creature is. It is quite large and almost looks like a beaver except for the tail. It seemed to be well fed too.

nature photos: Boulder Colorado Sunrise 8-27-10 - 08/29/10 06:08 PM
Boulder Colorado Sunrise 8-27-10 I went for an early morning bike ride on Friday. It was my first ride since climbing to Chasm Lake near Long’s Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park. I am now training to cycle Trail Ridge in the Park which is an intense climb up above 12,000 feet. Friday morning was a beautiful sunrise. I stopped along Hwy. 36 a few miles north of Boulder in an area with a broad horizon. I took a couple of dozen photos as the sun was rising. Here are a few of the better ones.

nature photos: Water Along Long’s Peak Trail - 08/27/10 06:05 PM
Water Along Long’s Peak Trail I was really surprised how much water there was along the Long’s Peak Trai in Rocky Mountain National Park. Most of it was below the tree line which is around 11,000 feet. There was more water and even a water fall when we got closer to Chasm Lake but I’ll save those photos for another post. When you consider that the top of the mountain is mostly rock it’s hard to imagine where the water is actually coming from. I am guessing that the snow melts into the rocks and then runs off from the

nature photos: Moonwalk... - 08/25/10 10:35 PM
Moonwalk... This past Saturday I went for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park. At the end of the hike it was near 8pm and the moon was just starting to rise. As I walked down the trail back toward the ranger station the moon got brighter and brighter while the trees got darker and darker. It made for an interesting contrast of light revealing the splendor of a genuine moonwalk. Here are some of the photos I took. nature photos: A River Runs Through Me… - 08/23/10 05:34 PM
A River Runs Through Me… One of my favorite places to go in Boulder to be close to nature is Boulder Creek which runs right through the middle of town. A trail runs right along beside the water. There are a few places along the trail where you can step on the rocks and walk out into the middle of the water. There is one place in particular where I enjoy going to sit. The water runs all around the rock I sit on. As I look up at the water coming toward me the feeling is that the river

nature photos: A Bee Fountain - 08/23/10 04:58 PM
A Bee Fountain At the water fountain near the flower garden at Columbine Unity Church in Boulder Colorado on Saturday there seemed to be a Bee Fest going on. Our men’s group had an early morning pancake breakfast. No one knows who invited the bees but they came in force. I noticed at least three different types: honey bees, yellow jackets and wasps. Fortunately, they seemed more interested in the water than our pancake syrup. Boulder Green Built Homes For Sale Contact Me Today For More Information Or Call Me @ 720-771-5594

nature photos: Rocky Mountain Clouds - 08/22/10 03:50 PM
Rocky Mountain Clouds During my drive to Trail Ridge Road in the Rocky Mountain National Park I saw some incredible cloud formations. I managed to photograph a few of them but it was hard to get the camera to focus. I took lots of photos but only a few of them came through. Here are a couple of the good ones. nature photos: Sunset in Lyons Colorado - 08/16/10 07:12 PM
Sunset in Lyons Colorado I visited a friend’s house in Lyons Colorado on Saturday evening. Lyons is a small town setting about 15 miles north of Boulder. It was a nice potluck gathering with a few close friends and family members. The deck behind her home overlooks a large canyon and has a spectacular view of the sunset. It was pretty cloudy most of the time but I managed to capture a couple of choice shots. One of my favorite is the one with a silhouette of a plant in the foreground. Boulder Green

nature photos: Let There Be Light - 07/25/10 08:44 PM
Let There Be Light I stopped frequently on my bicycle ride today to take photographs. Usually I’ll stop for something specific like a rock formation or a flower. After I take the photograph which I stopped for I always look around and see if anything else catches my eye. On one of my stops today I was in shade under a large tree. The wind was blowing so the sun was sort of bobbing in and out between the branches. I noticed the changing light patterns and decided to try photographing it.

nature photos: Colorado Rocky Mountain Rainbow - 06/27/10 06:36 PM
Colorado Rocky Mountain Rainbow I encountered an incredible rainbow yesterday. I was driving on highway 93 between Golden Colorado and Boulder. It’s a beautiful drive that follows along the edge of the Front Range. There were thick black clouds out to the east over the Denver Metro area where it seemed to be raining heavily. Across the edge of the mountains the clouds were breaking up amid intermittent sunshine and rain. I was expecting a rainbow to pop up any moment when it seemed to instantly appear. It was a brilliant spectrum of colors and very bright. Unfortunately, it was some

nature photos: Heaven and Earth: As Above, so Below… - 06/10/10 03:48 PM
Heaven and Earth: As Above, so Below… I took these two photographs a couple of weeks ago on a hike to Cub Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park in Larimer County Colorado. These are definitely two of the more unique photographs I have taken. The first is looking up at the sky. The second captures the sky’s reflection in the water. The reflections are not identical because I couldn't locate the exact cloud in the sky that was being reflection. The cloud I photographed reflects perfectly in the still water except for the ripples of a water bug. The weeds and

nature photos: Colorado Clouds - 06/08/10 07:49 PM
Colorado Clouds I like taking photos of different shapes and contrasts in nature. A few days ago I got some great cloud shots. The interesting thing about clouds is that no two are alike. And if you look carefully, you can always see something in the pattern. I find it especially interesting how different people see different things. What do you see in the clouds below? nature photos: Boulder Colorado Wildflower - 04/12/10 08:16 PM
Boulder Colorado Wildflower I went for a hike in the hills above Boulder yesterday and came across this little flower along beside the trail. I am not sure what it is but there were only a couple to be found along the way. It is still very dry and rocky in the area and there was a little grass yet this beauty was opening up and reaching for the sky. I am always amazed how nature’s beauty can emerge from the most barren of ground. Search Denver HUD Homes Click Here to View Denver Energy Star

nature photos: I AM a tree…do you see me.? - 03/14/10 03:56 PM
I AM a tree…Do You see Me? If You do, what is it that You see? Am I a source of wood or a source of shade? Am I an ornament of nature? These things and more I would say I AM a home to feathered Spirits of the wind I AM refuge to the weary traveler I AM a pause in your busy day I AM a glance out of the corner of your eye Most days you don’t see me at all…or so it seems Do You see Me today? nature photos: Flower Photos: The Face of Nature Smiling Back At Us - 03/01/10 02:28 PM
Flower Photos: The Face of Nature Smiling Back At Us A week or so ago I saw a blog about becoming aware of the beauty of nature in your back yard. It was very insightful and thought provoking way of getting you take a closer look at what is right in front of us. The blog included a couple of close up photographs of colorful flowers. I remember thinking that’s great for folks in Florida and Southern California, but my yard is full of snow and brown grass. I looked and looked but couldn’t come up with anything that seemed to

nature photos: Eagle Eye: Nature's Glory at Her Best--Powerful, Proud and Gracious... - 02/28/10 07:46 PM
Eagle Eye: Nature's Glory at Her Best--Powerful, Proud and Gracious... On the way out the door on the way to church I grabbed my camera. I remember hesitating for a moment and wondering why I felt moved to bring it but deciding to just follow the impulse. Then on the drive to church my wife, Hannele, and I noticed a huge eagle sitting in a tree right next to the road. I stopped the car and grabbed my camera and starting shooting. I walked right up near the tree and was able to get a half dozen or so shots
