Looking towards a new year has always been a big thing for me.  It's a chance to start fresh and go big!
As a tradition on New Year's Eve some people like to shoot fireworks.  Fireworks can be dangerous.
BUT NO MORE!
By clicking here http://www.maylin.net/Fireworks.html you can start your very own fireworks show right inside your home that is completely safe, quite colorful, has loud booms and are completely legal!
I have to add this … (4 comments)

Trashmail..ever heard of it? - 12/21/07 12:08 PM
As most of you know I work a lot of internet leads.  Among other sources I find that the internet is a really good way to reach my target audience because a lot of them are military and are in other places searching for home in this area.
When I checked my gmail yesterday I noticed I had a new lead.  Now when someone fills out one of my request forms I ask for an email address.  The email address was left and then I noticed something different about it.
The end of the address was trashmail.net.  Now this is one I had … (6 comments)

The bluetooth gremlins...part Duex - 12/20/07 09:59 AM
If you are a follower of my blog then you are aware that I recently wrote a blog concerning the loss ofmy bluetooth earpiece.  If not feel free to read the blog here: http://activerain.com/blogsview/303593/The-gremlins-must-have
Well, I thought I would write a follow-up to the blog as my earpiece appeared out of thin air yesterday.  I guess that means it is time to clean out my car.  I won't go into the specifics of where I found it in the car but just rest assured I found it.
Now, one week later I have purchased a new unit that was meant to replace that … (1 comments)

RealtyJuggler Desktop....CRM software reviews - 12/20/07 08:55 AM
This week I found out about a CRM program through another blog that was written by another member of AR.
Although I am currently using Top Producer, I have been looking for a change in systems.  Top Producer is a good program, don't get me wrong, but there are a few things I just don't like about it.
Such as:
The learning curve (I am pretty efficient when it comes to computers)
The $39 a month
The speed (or in reality..THE LACK THEREOF)
The $39 a month
The way that even if I delete a contact it keeps sending reminders of tasks that I had setup for … (30 comments)

Real Estate agents who take December off... - 12/13/07 12:19 PM
I want this blog to serve as a personal thank you to the real estate agents who decide to take the month of December off to be with family.  We all know that spending time this month with family is very important and I also am going to be doing a lot of that but I also am going to be doing work, work that needs to be done.
The reason I write this thank you is that your decision to take the month of December off definetely benfits me greatly.  The buyers who are looking while you are out shopping at … (8 comments)

That pesky pop-up blocker! - 12/11/07 01:22 PM
Pop-up blockers.  Great invention aren't they?  It is always nice to hear the ker-plunk sound when I am surfing the web and some advertiser has attached a pop-up to the page I am trying to visit.  Thank you to all of the creators for making the very valuable tool!
BUT, what about when you need a pop-up window to function?  In our MLS the results for searches always come up in pop-up windows.  So sometimes a need to override or disable the pop-up blocker for that site is very important.
How can you disable pop-up blockers you ask?
Great question.
On most of the toolbars … (3 comments)

The gremlins must have eaten my bluetooth... - 12/11/07 01:06 PM
Well, it has happened.  My bluetooth has gone to the land of the "where did it go" gremlins.
Yesterday, following my same routine, I got into my car and laid my Jabra BT-150 bluetooth earpiece on the center console and proceeded to take my son to grandma's house for the day.  Upon arrival at the office, this day was a little more hectic than the past few so, it never got attached to my ear.
About mid-day, after having to hold that big Palm Treo to my ear for several calls I began to hunt for my beloved earpiece.  GONE! POOF!  VANISHED!
After much … (2 comments)

Introducing yourself...how do you do it? - 12/10/07 10:11 PM
Typical situation...
Standing in line at the local grocery store.  If you are like me I tend to make small talk with those around me as that is just the type of person I am.
The person in line behind you makes the comment, "What do you do for a living?"
Now how would you answer this question?
If you are like most you would say..."I am a Realtor" or "I sell houses" or something like that.
Now let me ask you...how far does the conversation usually go after you have muttered those words?
Not far, right?  That usually pretty much ends the conversation right there.
How about … (5 comments)

Fayetteville Observer does small article on blogs - 12/09/07 03:54 PM
The Fayetteville Observer is the local newspaper to the Fayetteville, NC area.
I am sorry to say that it is not about Active Rain but at least they did do a small article about blogs.
The blog that they discussed was Design Sponge.  I went and took a look at Design Sponge and it was quit an interesting blog.  No where near the quality of AR when it comes to real estate but it wasn't designed for that, this blog is about interior design type things and did have some interesting reading.
Another blog they wrote about was Apartment Therapy.  This site from what … (1 comments)

A few details of the President's Mortgage Plan - 12/09/07 03:42 PM
I have been reading with some interest the plan that President Bush plans to sign to help those who have audjustable rate mortgages that are becoming seemingly out of control.  I am sure there is an underlying agenda for this...like to save our economy...but I applaud him for this "heartfelt" effort.
Here are some of the interesting things about the plan...
Who qualifies?
People with sub-prime mortgages who live IN the residence covered by the mortgage.  The plan is designed to EXCLUDE investors who bought properties and hoped to financially gain from the surge in home prices of the past.  Borrowers MUST be current … (7 comments)

Another book being read, here I go again.. - 12/09/07 11:33 AM
Ya know, it is strange.  In high school you couldn't get me to read a book to save my life...now it seems as though I thirst for knowledge.
I just recently finished reading the book by Dirk Zeller, "The Champion Real Estate Agent", which I highly recommend to anyone looking to grow their business to the next level.
Made a trip by the local Books-a-Million yesterday.  Perused the usual real estate offerings to see if there was anything new that sparked a fancy.
I was just about to pick up the other book by Dirk Zeller entitled "The Championship Real Estate Team" when I … (3 comments)

What those around us can teach us... - 12/09/07 08:11 AM
I got a rare opportunity yesterday.  The opportunity to spend the whole day with my son, just he and I.
Now I know that doesn't sound like much but he teaches me things everytime we do this.  Did I mention he is only just over 5 months old?
Yesterday, unfortunately, my wife had a dentist appointment that cut into our plans of attending the Fayetteville, NC Christmas parade.  So being the good father I am I decided that my son was not going to miss his first Christmas parade and that I would take him.
Now, I am not a "Mr. Mom" by any means and I … (4 comments)

Reading the "Terms of Service", oh how important! - 12/07/07 09:22 AM
Just a short time ago I read an blog post here on AR that mentioned a company called http://www.4info.net/.  The post was about a neat feature that they have that allows you to create html to post onto your website which creates a small text message generator so that clients can contact you directly.
I thought this was a novel idea!  So, I visited the site and signed up and began to make my text generator and place it on my site.
Once on the site I tested it.  I got the text message almost immediately!  This is amazing I thought.
About a week … (5 comments)

The great points race..look at 'em go! - 12/06/07 03:39 PM
I don't know about you but I write my blog and make comments on other's blogs for the education factor and the community feeling.
But lately I have been noticing that points are also motivating factors.
Do you often check your state page to see where you rank?  I keep an eye on it but I can assure you that it is not the main focus of my reason for being "in the rain."  I am the featured agent in my county but that is because I come here to learn and in turn that means blogging and commenting.  The others from … (5 comments)

Neighborhood Pages...they do work! - 12/04/07 03:56 PM
I came up with the idea recently to make individual pages for neighborhoods in my area.  Now, I have to warn you...this type of thing is a lot of work.   BUT...it does pay off.
Apparently everyone does website for the general area that they live in (i.e. the town or city) but not many do them for individual neighborhoods.  That is the secret to this.
I have created pages for some neighborhoods in my area and when you do a search for them I come back as Google page #1.
Go ahead, try it.
Open a browser window and go to Google.com, now … (6 comments)
