Beat the sun up this morning! The Big Dipper and I had a hot cup before Mr. Sol cast his bright rays down upon Southeast Oklahoma. There's something so wonderful and so amazing about gazing out onto a zillion stars with that first cup of coffee in the morning. I am so thankful that I don't live in a metro area with brightly lit nights making it difficult to see the stars. Since McCurtain County and Choctaw County are both rural areas, our major towns of Hugo, Ok and Idabel, OK have local airports but it’s quite obvious to clients coming in from out of the area, that there’s no large airport nearby offering commercial flights… so that’s often one of the questions that I get asked.

The county seat of McCurtain County is Idabel. It is the largest city / town in the extreme southeast corner of Oklahoma with a population of about 7000. Idabel is only about 20 miles from Texas and about 20 miles from Arkansas, just a couple of hours from the Dallas – Fort Worth, Texas area and about 3 to 3 ½ hours from the Oklahoma City area or from Tulsa, Oklahoma according to Internet travel sites. The very extreme southeast corner of Oklahoma has been a long drive from just about anywhere for a long, long time. The highways have been 2 laners with narrow shoulders and sometimes with blind spots, winding, or hilly enough that there's just not any passing lanes. Time passes - cars give smoother rides now than ever, you can drive along at a pretty fast clip and it doesn't feel like it while riding in the car, radios are better and can pick the stations up from anywhere, all cars now have other choices for listening to entertainment...cds, etc. Add in cell … (0 comments)

It always amazes me that people drive through Ft Towson, Ok on a daily basis and do not know that the town is nestled on the banks of Lake Raymond Gary. They will call me and ask why they can't find waterfront property in S E Oklahoma and when I tell them about Lake Raymond Gary, where you can own the shoreline and catch record size bass, crappie, and catfish, they do not have a clue as to where it's at.
