The Miracle Tabernacle located t 909 Ave D, Idabel, Oklahoma 74745 McCurtain County, will host its Christmas program at 7 pm, Monday, Christmas Eve, December 24th, 2012.  Fruit snacks will be handed out after the program.  All are welcome.  For more information call pastor, Karen Legan at 580-286-6439. Living in ‘Pert Near’ CountryI’ve heard the term ‘Pert Near’ my whole life.  I don’t recall ever using it but some of the people that I value greatly do use that term. Pert near means really close and as we all know getting close only counts in horseshoes, right??

The area that is now Valliant, Oklahoma, had a star on the map even before the town’s existence.
 
The Oak Hill Industrial Academy was established near what is now Valliant, Oklahoma, to educate the children of freed black slaves in the area in 1869 by the Presbyterian church. 
 
The Presbyterian School was a boarding school with Miss Eliza Hartford as a teacher in 1886.
 
Elliott Hall was dedicated in 1912 and the name changed to The Alice Lee Elliott Memorial Academy.The academy was instrumental in providing an education to black children in the Valliant, Oklahoma area … (5 comments)

Beavers Bend Folk Festival & Craft Show at Beavers Bend State Park, Broken Bow Oklahoma will take place this week-end (November 13 - 15, 2009) The park's phone number is 580-494-6497. This is a beautiful time of the year to visit our area with fall colors in place. This year's colors have not been as stunning due to the heavy rainfall that we'd had (October being a record setter for rain). located at Idabel, Oklahoma is advertised as Oklahoma's largest tractor and farm machinery auction. Such a pleasant surprise came in the mail yesterday!
It Was Just a "Thanksgiving" Card!
But not an ordinary one...well, the card was simple and kinda' ordinary BUT the inked words were not.  It came from a client in Utah that I've never met.  She found me on the internet.
I've never received a Thanksgiving Card from a client until this one.
The words blessed my heart tremendously:

Festivals, we have them.  There’s Dogwood days (in Spring in Idabel), Owachita (Festival of the Forest) at Beavers Bend (Summer at Broken Bow Lake), Blue Grass Festival (late Summer at Hugo), annual Watermelon Festival (Summer at Valliant), Fall Fest (Idabel, October), Lumberjack Festival (late summer in Wright City), Beaver’s Bend Folk Festival and Craft Show (Summer Broken Bow lake).  This means that there is always something fun being planned in the area.  Hugo hosts “Balloons Over Hugo” annually.  This year it was in July.  Then there’s always the Christmas parades, Independence Day celebrations on the 4th of July…there’s just always … (0 comments)

I really enjoy living in Idabel in Southeast Oklahoma.  It's a great place to live. The best thing about it is the people and the real estate business brings me into contact with a lot of the local people.
The Idabel community is very involved in it's people and vice versa.  It's a small town of about 7000 people.  
Idabel is home to "The Warriors", the basketball and football teams of the Idabel school system. We are served by the Idabel Public School System for grades Pre-K through 12. The Kiamichi Technology Center and the E.T. Dunlap Center which is a satellite university … (0 comments)
