What Flowers are Blooming at This time of Year in Charlotte, NC ? - 08/26/11 08:14 PM
This morning as I did my morning walk to check out the different flower beds I came upon the Dahlia bed and with the recent rains and heat they were looking pretty sad.  Over grown, lots of grass which needed to be pulled and the bed desperately needed mulch.  I decided to roll up my sleeves, grab my garden gloves and dig in.  Several hours later it was all groomed, cleaned, weeded and mulched.
I did cut back the Dahlias for they were out of control.  I will do a better job at staking them next year as they begin to … (14 comments)

I was looking at labrador retrievers on Petfinder the other evening and came upon this beautiful white labrador and beside his name was this word (Urgent).  I opened his information and he was described as a young labrador with a great personality.  Very sweet and loves all other dogs.  It also described him as an owner surrender.  Reading a little further it related that his last day was 08/20/11.  I knew that this meant that he was scheduled to be destroyed on Monday, 08/22/11.

This evening I am outside enjoying a beautiful evening on our patio with our three Boxers and it made me think...what would we do if we had to evacuate?  Am I prepared to care for our pets.
I went to the National Hurricane Preparedness website and found specific information concerning pets.

Indian Land, SC... Sun City Carolina Lakes... A Great Retirement Community for the Active Adult - 08/22/11 10:35 PM
Last week I had a nice lady visit the Carolinas and she is a very young and vibrant  67 year old.  She is moving here to get out of the cold Minnesota winters.  She wanted a beautiful ranch and in a community that provides lots of activities.
I showed her several neighborhoods and then showed her the Del Webb Community... An Active Adult Community for 55 and older.

A Gourmet Delicacy or Deadly Poisionous....The Mushroom???
With all of the humidity and rain that we have been receiving in and around Charlotte, I have to admit that I was amazed to discover these in my backyard this morning.


I immediately removed them from the back yard for fearful that my Boxers may attempt to eat them.  I then did a search for backyard mushrooms and discovered that they could be poisonous as well as fatal to pets if ingested.

There Has Been a 9.7% Increase in Homes Sold in July 2011 Compared to July 2010 in Charlotte, NC - 08/09/11 10:51 PM
The statistics are out from the Charlotte Regional Realtor Association and there has been a 9.7% increase in homes sold in July 2011 compared to one year ago.
Homes sold in 2010...1980 sold Homes sold in 2011...2173 sold July sales were down compared to the sales in June 2011 by 6.7%.  2330 homes sold in June 2011.
Average sale's price in June 2011... $216,391.
Average sale's price in July 2011... $213,354.   Down 1.4%.
Homes are being sold and am getting many calls from people who are planning to move to the Carolinas.

The scientific name is Rudbeckia hirta - "hirta" is Latin for "rough hairy" (as the prominent center of the flower is).

Enjoying and Caring for Hummingbirds - 08/01/11 10:37 PM
 Everyday I take time to walk thru our gardens with our three Boxers and to take time filling bird baths with fresh water and putting out bird seed and my favorite... Hummingbird nectar.
Today I caught these Hummers checking out the feeders and thought you would enjoy.


I always purchase the nectar for the feeders, but have a recipe to make homemade nectar and this one is easy.

Ingredients
