Ppppffffftttttt! - 12/23/09 09:52 PM
Remember these? Go on, click on over, refresh your memory. I'll wait.
Can I just say that this is officially the year of cookie hell.
Teensy little confession: when I wrote that last post, I was complaining about the whole thing but I was actually kinda proud of my little sweets. So what if it took a full 48 hours to achieve a not-so-dazzling array of 24 cookies? I thought these really were charming in their whimsy. That was the night before.

And in rental news... - 12/22/09 01:11 PM
...reality 'star' wins two nights in the home featured in the film A Christmas Story. See the article here.
Have you ever wanted to step into a movie? Well, you had your chance and missed it.
For the low, low bid of just $4,200 you could have slept in Ralphie's room (bunny pajamas not included) for a couple of nights, basked in the warm glow of a 'major award,' or perhaps even practiced target shooting with your very own Red Ryder carbine action, two hundred shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock - please, TRY not to … (4 comments)

What was I thinking? - 12/19/09 08:09 PM
There's nothing worse than some ActiveRain goddess telling us what we all should be doing. Ppppffftttt. Last time I jump on some bandwagon.
I've been baking. 'Nuff said. I'm not a baker. I like to cook. But a confectioner, I. Am. Not. Ever watch Top Chef and hear them whine and moan about how they aren't pastry chefs? That was kinda me the last couple of days.

I made the mistake of reading a real estate blog where said blogger talked about how she used to bake a gingerbread house for each of her past clients. It eventually got to … (15 comments)

Don't be a moron - 12/18/09 07:05 AM
This is an excerpt from an actual published article from our local online news:
Nick McCay reported the theft of his father's car - an expensive silver BMWZ3 roadster - from downtown. He said he had parked it at the 800 block of Cherry Street and it was no longer there.Officers soon spotted it at the 400 block of Walnut Street.Mr. McCay said he "must have had a bit more to drink" than he thought he had and he said he "was a moron for not checking and for freaking out and calling police."An officer said he agreed he was a moron … (8 comments)

A guide to holiday decorating OR Don't let Santa throw up on your house - 12/08/09 09:20 AM
Are you one of those lucky people who has their home on the market to sell during the holiday season?
Should you or shouldn't you? Decorate, that is.
Short answer: Yes
Long answer: It depends (that seems to be the long answer to a lot of the questions I pose)

We've all been told that the way you live in a house isn't the same way you live in a house that is for sale. Holiday decorations can make a home feel more welcoming, and will help potential buyers see themselves not only living there, but also enjoying … (9 comments)

Forbes, I have a bone to pick with you... - 12/07/09 08:19 PM
Forbes.com has finally come the realization that I've been screaming talking about for a long time. Chattanooga is a great value for the money. Because of everything from real estate taxes, to commuting times, to housing values, Chattanooga is a lovely little town to hang your hat whether you're retired or gainfully employed. Forbes has named Chattanooga as 8th "Best Bang for your Buck" out of the top 100 metro areas in the US.
So why am I mad at Forbes? I was digging it until I got to this travesty of reportage:
"Cities from McAllen, Texas (No. 7), to Greenville, … (3 comments)

Ever Heard of the Lazarus Effect? - 12/01/09 08:31 AM
The Lazarus Effect is what happens when a person with full blown AIDS is given Anti-Retrovirals (ARV's). In as little as a month, that person can go from knocking on death's door to healthy and thriving. It is truly miraculous. This video is only one minute long. In honor of World AIDS Day, please watch it and do what you can to help. HIV/AIDS is not the death sentence that it once was. HIV is now a chronic but manageable condition. It only takes a little bit of money to save a life.
