Cumberland Island Georgia.......National Sea Shore - 07/22/12 08:28 AM
Cumberland Island is an amazing National Sea Shore managed by the National Park Service. An island larger than the size of Manhattan Island allowing a maximum of 300 visitors per day keeps it beautifully pristine. There was so much to do on Cumberland Island is just a day trip that I couldn't cover everything in the one post, so see my Cumberland Island, Georgia Part I - about Cumberland feral horses. Below is a photo taken from the ferry as we traveled to Cumberland from Saint Mary's, Georgia.

"It also provides a lens to look at those settlers who arrived here in 1736 who also went through some hard financial times." View the archaeological site of the fort and take part in the programs that help you take a look into our history and learn about what it was like (3 comments)

Cumberland Island, a barrier island off the coast of Georgia is larger than Manhattan Island, but never has more then 300 visitors per day. Cumberland is the southernmost barrier island on the Georgia coast. The island is over 36,000 acres, 17.5 miles long and approximately 1 ½ to 3 ½ miles wide. There is no causeway or bridge to the island so most of the visitors to the island take the Cumberland Ferry from Saint Mary's, Georgia.
Leaving the mainland on the Cumberland Ferry, you have a view of historic downtown Saint Marys. Upon arriving on the (1 comments)
