beaches: Cumberland Island, Georgia Part II....National Sea Shore and so much more - 08/22/08 07:40 PM
Cumberland Island is an amazing National Sea Shore managed by the National Park Service. An island larger than the size of Manhattan Island allowing a maximum of 300 visitors per day keeps it beautifully pristine. There was so much to do on Cumberland Island is just a day trip that I couldn't cover everything in the one post, so see my Cumberland Island, Georgia Part I - about Cumberland feral horses. Below is a photo taken from the ferry as we traveled to Cumberland from Saint Mary's, Georgia.

beaches: Logan's Day Out on Saint Simons Island.....One of Glynn County's Golden Isles - 08/13/08 06:16 PM
Logan decided to take a day out on one of Glynn County's Golden Isles.....Saint Simons Island.There were many choices but Logan rounded up his driver/photographer and headed first to the Saint Simons Island Pier. Logan can see Jekyll Island across the sound. The benches look like a nice place to rest but Logan is just getting started.
There are a few people fishing and crabbing off the pier.....but no fishing for Logan today because there are other items on the agenda.
Logan contemplates while enjoying the coastal waterways......

Cumberland Island, one of the barrier islands off the coast of Georgia offers no roads or bridges to the island nor any stores or restaurants. But you can spend the night on Cumberland Island at the Greyfield Inn.
Cumberland Island is 80% owned by the National Park Service and has been named a national Sea Shore. Located south of Jekyll Island and north of Saint Mary's Georgia, most guests arrive by Ferry from Saint Mary's, Georgia. On the north end of Jekyll Island, Georgia, you will find one of only two remaining Georgia pre-revolutionary structures made of tabby. Originally the house was the residence of Major William Horton, one of General James Oglethorpe's most trusted military aides.
Major Horton was the first English resident of Jekyll Island. His two story home was built on the north end of Jekyll Island along with a barn. After spending the day with clients, my husband and I decided to take a walk on the beach on Jekyll Island.
This is the view from the parking lot of our beaches on Memorial Day weekend........(even on holidays, Jekyll is not crowded.)
The birds were feeding along the shore line..
Man with hooks and children on intertubes.....a possible recipe for disaster.......(but we did not witness any disasters)......
Even the pets on the beach were having fun.......(Pets are allowed on the beach after 5:00 each day)...My golden retrievers love it when we take them.....
