Well…. I’m glad my headline caught your attention, but sorry folks. My blog post today is not about sex.
This is the time of year where my husband and I make a list of home projects that we want to tackle. They generally fall into 2 categories: what needs to be done and what we want done to our home. To put it simply, the sexy projects vs. the projects that are not so much fun.
I assume that most homeowners, like us, have limited budgets and struggle deciding what projects to choose. I think that first and foremost it is important to take care of what you have. These projects typically fall into the not so sexy category and include things like new roofs, tree trimming, resealing driveways, exterior painting, and professional carpet & tile cleaning to name a few. These projects can be expensive. They are considered maintenance issues and will not
add value to your home.
Now for the fun part, projects that are sexy and will likely add value to your home. Projects on this list include things like landscaping, basement, kitchen & bath remodeling , adding a deck or patio and installing hardwood floors or tile.
I recently came across a great article on Houselogic.com , 9 Home Improvement Projects that Never Go Out of Style. If you’re looking for some home improvement ideas, this article provides some great tips. If you know what project you want to do, Remodeling Magazine puts out an annual report that looks at project costs vs. value. The information in this report is really useful; particularly if you’re considering selling your home.
Owning a home is one of the largest investments most of us will ever make. Whether or not they’re sexy, home improvements go hand-in-hand with home ownership.
