Folk Lores - 06/21/08 07:28 PM
I recently did a blog on a shoe tree I saw between LaVerkin and Toquerville Utah. I wondered why there were shoes all over in the tree. Hope that someone will have some information on it. Rich Dansereau added an interesting comment about bottle trees down south and the folK lore behind them (also a great picture of one). I was wondering what other folk lore people might like to share?

Update, KSL TV in Salt Lake City is going to do a story on the tree and use my picture. They recently cut it down because they felt it was a hazard. A … (6 comments)

I you will be headed our way in July there are several fun things to do.
The Outlaw Trail Theater is July 1-3 at the Western Park Ampitheater. Of course there will be Independence Day celebrations. There will be a parade on Main Street in the morning, and fireworks in the evening at the Ashley Valley Park.
Dippy the Dinosaur will be having a birthday celebration again this summer. This party celebrates the discovery of the Diplododus skeleton. This skeleton is on display in the museum.   I am sure Dippy will want to invite his dinosaur friends.

What is that in the Tree?! - 06/17/08 11:12 PM
I went to St George, Utah last week and on my way back to Salt Lake City I passed through the towns of LaVerkin and Toquerville. In between these two towns I saw this tree.

Can you guess what is in the tree?

Yep they are shoes. Why? I do not know. I hope to find out where this tradition started and get back to you.

Must be Summer in Vernal - 06/17/08 10:42 PM
The weather has been kind of cold and unusual out this way. Now it is warmer and it seems like summer is going to stay. A sure sign of summer in Vernal is seeing the beautiful planters and pots along Main Street filled with petunias. Varieties of purples and pinks, with a touch of white. Thought I would share this wonderful site!

My Father An Inspiration - 06/16/08 11:25 PM
My father was a great example for my Sisters and I. He was a teacher, and taught us the value of education. He felt if you could read you could learn to do anything. He showed us this by example. If he wanted to do something he got a book, and the next thing you knew he had accomplished the task. He not only taught us that we could learn to do anything, he also taught us we could be anything we wanted to be. We have missed him these past 27 years and wish that he was here so our … (4 comments)

The Beauty of the Greenbelt in Idaho Falls Idaho Check out the Falls! - 06/08/08 10:58 AM
Memorial Day weekend was a great time to get out and walk the greenbelt. The flowers and trees were blooming.

The geese were showing off their new babies.

The falls are a little high with the spring runoff, and the rapids are beautiful. Much different than when they were frozen!

Crossing has a wonderful fountain in the middle of a turn about with wildlife, and an eagle. Idaho Falls was was originally called Taylor's crossing, and then the name change to Eagle Rock. More the history  can be found in an earlier blog I wrote about … (8 comments)

Petrified Wood Washington DC Natural History Museum - 06/08/08 12:05 AM
The end of may I had the opportunity to go to the Natural History Museum in Washington DC. I spent a lot of my time looking at the fossils, and gems. I thought the fossil hunters in this group would enjoy seeing the pieces from the museum. Pieces this large and colorful would be a great find!

Flowers in Washington D C - 06/06/08 11:52 PM
I have been traveling recently and not doing a lot of blogging. I got a change to go to Washington D. C. for the first time. Since I love flowers my favorite places were the Botanical Gardens, and the rose gardens. I thought I would share a few pictures with you. It was hard to narrow them down.
