utah: Serene - 08/20/08 02:33 AM
I took this picture while on a trip to find garnets in Utah. I loved how serene this pictures looks. It makes me just want to get away and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature. Away from the demands of daily life. To remember that there is more to life that bills, work, and stress.

utah: No Longer Starving! - 08/14/08 12:47 PM
I had the opportunity to get a picture of Starvation Reservoir near Duchesne, Utah. It got it,s name because a rancher tried to raise cattle in this area and they all starved. In 1970 the reservoir was built and now there is more irrigation water to that area. If you enjoy fishing for wall eye and small mouthed bass this is the place to go. The area also is great for swimming, water skiing, boating, sailing, camping. It is about an hour from Vernal coming from the east side of the state, or 2 hours from Salt Lake coming from the west side of … (9 comments)

Even though the sun is shining, and the air is getting warmer there is still ice on Strawberry Reservoir. Here is a picture taken last week as the sun was setting.
Strawberry Reservoir is located thirty miles from Heber, Utah. It was built in 1922. and is currently has a surface area of 17,164 acres. It is a great area for many recreational activities such as fishing, boating, and snowmobiling.

utah: Septarian Nodule - 05/20/08 10:13 PM
I took pictures of the rocks at the airport. I think the one I like the best was the Septarian Nodule. They say it is found in southern Utah. 150 million years water covered parts of southern utah. Volcanic eruptions cause sea life and sediment to be trap in mud balls. The mud balls were then exposed to the sun when the water receded. This caused them to crack. Whenthe water returned dissolved sea life turned in calcite that settled into the cracks causing this type of formation. Rockhounds can find them in Kanab, Utah.

utah: Dutch Oven Cooking Time - How to Clean Oven - 05/05/08 04:54 PM
I have been checking into how to clean my dutch ovens. I bought new ovens and seasoned them while taking a class in college. Now my dutch ovens have been sitting there waiting for me to use them. I have been running back and forth from one state to another for two years and I do not even remember if I put newspaper in them so they would not go rancid. This is why I have been searching for ways to fix that so I can get them out and use them.
One suggestion I found that might save me from re-seasoning … (8 comments)

utah: Utah Picasso Marble - 05/01/08 06:03 PM
I was in the Salt lake Airport and I saw a beautiful rock called Utah Picasso marble. It can only be found in Beaver,  Utah. The Gulf of Mexico used to reach to Southern Utah. The shells from tiny sea animals turn into limestone and were covered by lava. This created the colors in the rock. Some colors are pink, yellow, and brown, which contrast with other colors, such as black, brown, white, and grey.
Does anyone have any experience finding this stone?

utah: Prehistoric Times? Dinosaurland Vernal Utah - 04/19/08 01:59 AM
Meet some of the dinosaurs of Vernal Utah! They are a familiar sight in Vernal. Dinosaur fossils were found near Vernal in 1909. 350 tons of bones were removed at the time, and continue today. Some complete skeletons were found. The area became a National Monument in 1915, where people could view the process of the removal of dinosaur bones. Unfortunately, the monument has been closed for repairs to the building. Replicas of dinosaurs can be viewed at the Utah Field House of Natural History Museum.

utah: Rock hunting in Vernal Utah - 03/13/08 11:15 AM
I have been selling real estate in vernal for about 7 months. This weekend I went rock hunting for petrified wood outside Vernal. I was thrilled to find several nice piece. This area used to be tropical about 50 million years ago so it is possible to find petrified coral, palm tree wood, and even sea turtle shells. The area of Vernal is known for the amazing fossilized dinosaurs bones found there as early as 1909. My next venture might be hunting for garnets or plant fossils in the area!
