Trail Days kick off 2013 Appalachian Trail Season here in Franklin, NC for the towns 1st. Festival.  April Fools Trail Days is on Saturday, March 30th with a day long event downtown Franklin.   Featuring displays, workshops, live entertainment, fun & food and more.  AT hikers come from all over and are a big part of our tourism each year.  Learn more at the Nantahala Hiking Club here.

Franklin, NC has a lot to offer being its such a small little town nestled in the Mountains of the Nantahala National Forest.  One of our most popular things to do in Franklin, NC is to hike the mountain trails.  There is a abundant places around here from easy hike's to very strenous hikes.  Two of the most well known are  Appalachian and Bartram Trails. Franklin is an official Appalachian Trail friendly destination.

Franklin NC April Fool's Trail Days a Celebration of the Appalachian Trail. Franklin, NC 7th Annual 2011 Appalachian Trail Gathering  Date: Apr 01, 2011 - Apr 02, 2011 Where: Sapphire Inn and Downtown Franklin, NC Come join in this celebration of the Appalachian Trail.
Friday and Saturday Night - Sapphire Inn - 5pm - 9pm.   Waldroop Band, Talent Contest and Food.
Saturday - Downtown Franklin, NC 10am - 4pm.  Live music, food, outdoor exhibits.

Franklin, NC has a lot to offer and you should never be bored around here.  After all we have the whole Great Smoky Mountains to play in.  Here are a few of the local favorite things to do in Franklin, NC.

Franklin, NC Area Hiking Trails  - Here is just a short list of popular hiking trails in and around Franklin, NC  ~ ENJOY!

This area is rich in a variety of hiking trails. This listing can only cover a few. The Appalachian Trail (Georgia to Maine) passes just a few miles West of Franklin, and can be accessed at many places. The Bartram Trail also passes through Franklin, going East-West, and offers many highlights. There is a wide variety of trails offering hikes of different lengths in the Cowee, Fishhawk, and Nantahala Mountains.
