BLOGGING has turned me into a maniac!!! I am HOOKED!!! - 01/31/11 11:47 PM
Do you know that when I started on January 1 to be seriously committed to writing a blog a day for the month of January, I FINALLY think “wow, now these aren’t bad” ….  They sound pretty good to me, at least some of them do.
I have created what I think is a great way to write my blogs.
I write them in Microsoft Word, and I save them in Microsoft Word.  I was recently with a realtor friend who says, I always forget what I said!  So I told her what I do and she now thinks I am … (1 comments)

It's IMPOSSIBLE for a realtor to take a vacation .... NOT! - 01/31/11 11:20 PM
How could I ever get away?  What if the buyer I have been working with wants to see the home of their dreams...... and of course, this home comes on the market just as soon as the plan takes off!  And they are calling you that they HAVE to get into the house.
Should you go away?  I am now speaking from recent experience.......  The snow was piled "up to here" and we are feeling burnt out and gloomy at the reality of the market.
The opportunity came up and we took advantage and flew from piles of snow to paradise....... … (2 comments)

Charity Begins at Home in Northport, NY - 01/25/11 12:19 AM
Charity Begins at home……..
We are all so fortunate to live in one of the finest places on earth but even in our local town there is a Food Pantry housed in the Presbyterian Church on Main Street.  It is visited often by people needing to feed families.
Our lives are so caught up in what we are doing that when it comes to charitable giving we sometimes forget.
This year someone reminded me about the food pantry and an idea came to mind that was given to me by my niece…………  I decided that for our Holiday Party I … (1 comments)

It’s worth moving to Huntington just for this!!!  Many years ago when we were in High School we discovered a Pizza hole-in-the-wall called Village Pizza……  It was in the late 50’s and we would go here on a date…. Pizza was 15 cents a slice!  Can you imagine?  Wow what a treat it was to come here for a slice….  This hole in the wall place is now called “Little Vincent's” Pizza…. It is one store in from the corner of Main Street and New York Avenue, and if you shop in the corner store at Aerosole Shoe Store, you … (1 comments)

I guess I am just a little obsessed with Technology and Buying all the latest toys that help guarantee that my business will rise to the next level if I use all these things.  There is the catch!  I have to “Use” all these things!!!  I am great at buying but not so great at learning how to use them, although I am having some sleepless nights trying to learn it ALL.
The other day I was at the mall and I got a cell phone call from my husband who was obviously … (3 comments)

Small Town USA - Greenlawn New York... Home of Harborfields! - 01/18/11 07:42 AM
Do you remember voting for Miss Rheingold????
My first recollection of the  Greenlawn Fireman’s Fair was in the mid 50’s.  That Labor Day was the year that Harborfields School District was formed and we were days away from “Centerport Kids” meeting Greenlawn Kids”…….  It was so exciting that we were going to the fair and seeing the kids that we would eventually graduate from High School with...  ………  It was more than a fair for sure………….  It was a social event that was so much a part of our lives…….  It was where you went to spend your money on fun … (0 comments)

Treat Our Customers right! It Pays off!!! - 01/16/11 04:02 PM

OK it's a long BLOG, but tell me, isn't it worth reading??? No one can make you serve customers well….  That’s because great service is a choice.
Here is a great story shared by Harvey MacKay.
Harvey  was waiting in line for a ride at the airport.  When a cab pulled up, the first thing Harvey noticed was that the taxi was polished to a bright shine.  Smartly dressed in a white shirt, black tie, and freshly pressed black slacks, the cab driver jumped out and round the car to open the door for Harvey.  He handed my friend a laminated card and said:  I’m Tim … (2 comments)

Tough to convince SELLERS that they won't get the $ they want!!! - 01/16/11 03:23 PM
“We wish we had listened to the Asher’s from the beginning.”
We said they should list the house at about $869,000.  The seller went with the higher number hoping that someone would come along and they would get more money.  Suzanne and Brian were right on target.  They ended up listing the house at $969,000 instead of $869,000, and we are positive that the seller would have gotten more money at the time the market was higher and have been in their retirement home a year earlier if they had listened to us!!!
*This  house ended up selling two years … (3 comments)

WHO STOLE THE BUTTERFLY COLLECTION????? - 01/14/11 11:15 PM
The Butterfly Collection Caper of 1959
It was the Fall of 1959. I was a Junior and Quarterback of the football team at the newly formed Harborfields High School.
Most of the football players were part of the “Mole Hole” gang.  The Mole Hole club house was a non working chicken coop behind John Kaiser’s house on Greenlawn Road.  John was a tackle on the football team and his mother was a Math teacher at Harborfields High School.  It was amazing how a bunch of guys over six feet tall and over 200 lbs. were scared to death of Mrs. Kaiser.  She … (0 comments)

MY ENGAGEMENT RING COST 40,000 CLAMS.......... - 01/10/11 10:25 PM

Here on Long Island, Clam digging is a job that boys sometimes learn when they are growing up living near the water.  Sometimes they go on to become clam diggers as their livelihood.  Others do it as summer jobs to make money during the summers when they are going to college.  It’s a great job!  You are on the water, get a nice healthy tan, get strong when doing it, and make a lot of money!!!  What could be better!!!

In 1950’s clams in Northport Bay/Harbor and Centerport Harbor were plentiful.  After a day of digging you could make … (2 comments)

There was this great restaurant in Centerport. It was called Links Log Cabin.  Here during the 50’s and probably before and after that,  people from all over the island would come to enjoy a great dinner here in Centerport!  It was a very popular place, and you would usually have to wait on line to get in!!!  Our family went to Links when we came out to Centerport to “Visit” our … (20 comments)

Back when my parents first moved to Centerport in 1955, they discovered the Mill Pond Inn.  My Dad and Mother went to the Mill Pond Inn at least 2 times a week for dinner, and of course, “dragged” me along.  When my Dad would return from a trip (was … (2 comments)

GREENLAWN ESTABLISHMENTS in the '50's - 01/06/11 10:33 PM
Harborfields Community “Way Back When”…………
There were a few Greenlawn establishments back then around the ‘50’s that we all frequented or at least knew about!!!  Scudder’s  (on the corner of Broadway and Gates Street which is currently a little Greek Restaurant, It’s Greek to Me!)…  This was a soda fountain where you could purchase coffee, egg creams, magazines, newspapers, penny candy and that kind of stuff…  The place smelled of cigarettes and coffee.  The teachers of Harborfields  met there in the morning before school and sat at the cranky little spinning stools to talk about what was going on for the … (0 comments)

Facebook in the 50’s…. Harborfields School District…………
Hey, Did you know that back in the 50’s in Harborfields High School we DID HAVE FACEBOOK……… Only it was in a different form…………..
It was called “SLAM BOOKS”……….  These were very popular…. They were usually spiral bound books that we purchased at Mrs. Quarry’s store in the Village of Greenlawn that we specifically wrote  “SLAM BOOK” on the front cover.  We all had our own “Slam Book” and we could keep track of what different kids were doing and what everybody thought of them.
Inside the book each student in the … (2 comments)

Let's see just how it works!!!
We, Suzanne & Brian Asher of Signature Properties have convinced our seller that he needed to change his house listing to 3% to the selling agent ......... We explained and convinced him that selling agents would be more interested in showing his house at 3% than another comparable house giving out only 2%.............
