Great places to dine in north Scottsdale, AZ - 05/30/10 09:57 AM
People in north Scottsdale, AZ sometimes don't know about some great, nearby restaurants and tend to drive down to Frank Lloyd Wright or Shea or old town for dining.  There are two excellent restaurants in our back yard and I'm here to let you know about them.
For the absolute BEST in Italian and continental cuisine, try Gianfranco's, owned and operated by chef Ginafranco Motti.  He was trained in Italy and worked in New York for years before moving to Scottsdale, AZ, where he has successfully run 3 restaurants.  The food is always fresh and flavorful, consistantly outstanding.  He offers nightly … (3 comments)

Any tax specialists out there who can answer this? - 05/16/10 04:13 PM
I'm hoping someone on this helpful website can help.
I believe there is still the current law that to avoid capital gains, one must retain their primary residence for 2 years.  However, is there any relief for the homeowner who is upside down?
I have a client who bought a home last September for $225,000.  It is now only worth $190,000.  He HATES the neighborhood and wants to move ASAP.  I told him I still thought he had to retain it for at least 2 years, but he's adament he can move in one. With the values now far below what … (1 comments)

tax advice - 05/16/10 01:03 AM
For all you CPA's and tax advisors,
It used to be you had to hold on to a house for 2 years to avoid capital gains.  What's the scoop in areas like AZ where the values are declining?
For example, a friend of mine bought a house last year before I met him for $225,000.  He doesn't like the area and wants to move.  Well, the CMA shows his house is only worth $190,000.  What's the tax liability?
Your best advice would be greatly appreciated.
TIA.

Home inspection on a new build? - 05/12/10 11:18 AM
I'm writing to share my horror story about NOT getting a building inspection on a newly built home.  We bought a home from a very reputible builder, but they moved the home back on the lot without telling us - our first disappointment.  Then, as we eagerly moved in, we started to notice larger than normal and faster than normal cracks occurring in the drywall/plaster.  Then, the flooring cracks.  Then, the 2 story home built directly in view overlooking our pool area.
Well, we hated the small back yard created by them moving the house back, so decided to move long … (3 comments)
