FIREPLACES - myth or fact? Calling all home inspectors, environmentalists and anyone with knowledge - 11/27/10 10:23 PM
Every year as we get into our "cold season" (you know, below 60 degrees F here in Scottsdale, Arizona,) we all long to warm up by our fireplaces.  There's nothing quite like the smell of burning logs and the warmth it brings.

However, every year, here in the Valley of the Sun, we get "no burn" days, when we are not allowed to burn wood in our fireplaces.  Supposedly, because of the "mountains" surrounding our HUGE valley, the soot and pollution caused by the burning logs is extremely BAD and cannot escape over those huge  large tall mountains  hills.
It causes too … (15 comments)

Tuesday Tickler - with age comes wisdom - 11/23/10 01:54 AM
One day an old German Shepherd starts chasing rabbits and before long, discovers that he's lost. Wandering about, he notices a panther heading rapidly in his direction with the intention of having lunch. The old German Shepherd thinks, "Oh, oh! I'm in trouble now!" Noticing some bones on the ground close by, he immediately settles down to chew on the bones with his back to the approaching cat. Just as the panther is about to leap, the old German Shepherd exclaims loudly, "Boy, that was one delicious panther! I wonder, if there are any more around here?"Hearing this, the young panther halts … (18 comments)

Should a seller pay for a professional home inspection prior to listing their home? - 11/17/10 12:19 AM
This issue has been brought up numerous times here on Activerain about the benefits of a seller getting a home inspection done BEFORE putting their home on the market.  But I have a couple of questions.

Since all home inspectors must be certified, is the home inspection paid by the seller transferable to the potential buyer?
Is it an actual incentive to be able to say in MLS:  home has been professionally inspected and all items of concern corrected?
What happens if the home buyer insists on his/her/their own inspector who comes up with some "major" items needing correction that … (79 comments)

A poignant story - 11/16/10 09:19 PM
 The Sneeze
They walked in tandem,  each of the ninety-two students filing into the  already crowded auditorium. With their rich  maroon gowns flowing and the traditional caps,  they looked almost as grown up as they  felt.
Dads swallowed hard  behind broad smiles, and Moms freely brushed  away tears.
This class would NOT  pray during the commencements, not by choice,  but because of a recent court ruling prohibiting  it.

The principal and  several students were careful to stay within the  guidelines allowed by the ruling. They gave  inspirational and challenging speeches, but no  one mentioned divine guidance and no one asked  … (8 comments)

Odd Google searches - 11/14/10 11:33 AM
Yesterday, I was checking my blogs on google and bing to see where they're placing.  Not bad - 4th on one page and 5th on the other.
So, then I decided to google my name.  Not my married name of 23 years, but my maiden name:
Juli Storms.
Imagine my surprise when Julie (with an "e") Storms came up and she's a Realtor® in the Atlanta area.  And, get this, she specializes in horse properties, just like I do.
So, I sent her an email.
Today, I got a response back and she, too, thought the whole thing was great.

A cancer survival kit - 11/10/10 11:06 PM
Recently, one of my dearest friends was diagnosed with stage 4 breast cancer.  She's only 33 with two young boys aged 8 and 5.  The ordeal she's going through is brutal, but she's staying strong.
Another good friend of mine, a breast cancer survivor and a nurse, put together a package she used to hand out to all of her breast cancer patients.  I've put this into a blog because it's a small thing we can do to help our loved ones through this struggle.  Maybe you can use it for someone you know.

Calling all computer savvy people............your help, please - 11/04/10 10:44 PM

Unfortunately, nothing worked and we're having to play taps over this printer.  Then, the nightmare happened - they called and offered me this "screaming" deal with rebates and such - too good to be true - it was.  They sent me a refurbished piece of caca that didn't even get past the set up stage.

Improving Arizona real estate market - 11/03/10 02:11 AM

I really meant to send in that early ballot - honestly!!! It was on my desk right in front of my computer.  But........didn't get to it.
So, I trotted off to the polls today and saw two really amazing things.
A minivan pulled up and two people got out of the front seats.  They went around to the side door and helped out two meticulously dressed and coifed elderly ladies.
Both were blind.
So, I held the doors to the building and watched as these regal ladies. holding their heads up high, entered into the polling place.  They were escorted up … (16 comments)
