Online Petition to Louisiana Lawmakers to Raise Homestead Exemption - 01/26/09 01:31 PM
I don't know how many of my fellow citizens received or saw their 2008 property tax bill this year.  I live in St. Tammany and I assure you mine went up 300% this year.   Before hurricane Katrina I paid a little over $800.  My new bill is now over $2200.  In this economy where every nickel counts the greedy hand of government wants more of my hard earned dollars.
The homestead exemption for Louisiana is currently $75,000.  If they had indexed this to inflation it would be around $150,000.  So whats happening is an unfair burden is falling on the working people.  My parents … (6 comments)

St Tammany Property Taxes - 01/21/09 03:07 PM
I viewed my property taxes online this week and blew a gasket.  In these times when property values at best are holding steady my taxes went from pre-Katrina ($800) to over $2200.  I don't know how in the world some people will be able to come up with the extra cash.  This is a Republican dominated parish that is supposed to believe in low taxes.  I don't think it matter any more what party you belong to.
I wonder what my home is really worth when someone has to pay taxes, flood and homeowners insurance on top of the house note.  I … (0 comments)

Tax Time - 01/21/09 02:56 PM
The self-employed's favorite time of the year is here, tax time.  I just wanted to pass on a new one to me.  I know plenty of the active rainers know already but here goes.  For the first six months of last year you can deduct 50.5 cents a mile.  The last six months you can deduct 58.5 cents a mile.  Anyone using a CPA shouldn't have any worries.  Good luck.

PMI - 01/17/09 10:14 AM
Here is a tax tip I didn't know about, and may be you didn't either.  I had two buyers last year I know of paying PMI.  They can deduct it from last years taxes using schedule A line 13.  Let your buyers know they may appreciate this tip.  Remember every little bit helps.

It's a Dogs Life - 01/16/09 09:02 PM
My wife was cleaning some old pictures out of the computer yesterday when she ran across this video of our dog. She is a Rhodesian Ridgeback. We got her from the pound. Great dog. Well they were originally bred to help hunters chase lions in Africa, or so I have been told. As you can see she is resting well after a hard day hunting lions on the Safari's of Slidell Louisiana. So if any of you fellow active rainers have any big cats, don't bring them around my house. Make sure you turn up the sound and laugh like I … (14 comments)

Just How Bad Is This Econmy????? - 01/12/09 01:42 PM
I read yesterday where the Arizona Cardinals sold out next weeks football game in six (6) minutes.  This has to be some kind of a record.  I realize they are win starved.  I can relate having backed the Saints for years.
The Phoenix area is one of the worst with foreclosures in the country, yet people have enough bread to pony up for this game.  This is pure luxury/entertainment.  Absolutely discretionary spending.  So just how bad is it really???  I don't really trust the press or the politicians.  I am sure these tickets weren't cheap.
Have a great day fellow rainers.

Penny Pinchers - 01/10/09 08:41 PM
These days we have to stretch our money as much as we can.  This includes everything from food to luxury purchases.  I have found three different sites where we can possibly save some money.
The first one is a coupon site for things like groceries.  We all have to eat.  My wife uses this ones quite regularly.  Check it out.  You might like it.
The second one is for the hard working moms.  Husbands our wives like being taken to dinner more than we know.  This is a site for restaurant coupons.  Our spouses don't care if we use coupons when … (11 comments)

Stimulus Package - 01/08/09 03:40 PM
President-elect Obama is proposing a immediate stimulus package for the United States.  He keeps harping we are in dire straits.  I have one question, what got us in this situation?  To much debt.  Along with this debt came to much spending.  Our country grew on leverage.  Our governments tax receipts grew on to much leverage.  They and us, spent like there was no tomorrow.  They created a welfare state for millions of Americans.  I don't think most realize they are on one of these programs.
Whether you are on social security, medicare or medicaid, etc.  you are on a welfare type … (2 comments)

Computer Thief Caught - 01/03/09 10:14 AM
How many laptop computer owners are aware of software that will phone in it's location if it comes up missing?  Well there is a software that will do this.  Have you heard of Lo-Jack for cars?  I knew of this but,I didn't know they made software for laptops.  Well they do.
Seems a 23 year old was arrested in Metairie Louisiana for possesion of stolen property, Saturdays Times Picayune reports.  The software is called Computrace Lojack for Laptops.  You can have it installed at purchase or order it online, etc.
So computer thieves beware, big brother may be watching.

Gas Tax Increase - 01/02/09 06:48 PM
Just want to get my fellow active rainers opinions again.  Just when gas prices start to retreat, someone in Congress has the audacity to propose raising gasoline taxes on all Americans.  Can you believe this?  These SOB's have no other ides than to take more and more of our hard earned dollars.  In this current economy taking more money out of circulation isn't going to help any of us except the fat cats in Washington.  God help us we need it.

Market Report for Clipper Estates - 01/02/09 09:00 AM
Clipper Estates Subdivision is an exclusive gated waterfront community located just outside Slidell city limits.  It is one of several waterfront neighborhoods in the area.  One of it's best assets is it's location.  Clipper is located much closer to the lake than most others.  This translates into less idling time to and from the lake.
2007 sales were 11 units sold.  Average sale price $361,000 or 137 sq. ft.
2008 sales were 12 units sold.  Average sale price $347,000 0r 137 sq. ft. That's quite a feat considering the national housing market.  One more home sold in 2008 and the … (0 comments)

Bringing in 2009 - 01/02/09 08:46 AM
I am sorry I missed this party fellows.  This must have been a good one in Spartan Trace Slidell.  As one can see there wasn't an economic problem in 2008 for these guys, at least they didn't show it.  I didn't

notice anyone outside the home this morning.  I guess they were shaking off a good night.  When I was younger (in my good ole days), we had some good party's.  But I think they outdid me.
