st tammany property taxes: St Tammany Property Taxes - 12/19/09 11:24 AM
St. Tammany Parish began mailing your 2009 property tax bills this week.  I received mine on Tuesday.  They are due by January 15th, 2010.  If you pay it before the end of 2009 (check must clear) you can deduct it on your 2009 income taxes.
I think most people won't get sticker shock when they open their tax bill this year since this wasn't a reassessment year.  The properties are reassessed every four years is St. Tammany.  If you don't receive your bill soon contact the assessors office or call 985-809-8212, -8213, -8214.

A bit of ggod news the Parish Council voted last night in a meeting to keep the milliages the same.  Bad news is some owners values still went up. Result higher taxes.

st tammany property taxes: Economy my A#@ - 07/16/09 12:04 PM
I think I have finally had it with this excuse by state and local governments faced with budget shortfalls.  As one who voted for Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to say I am disappointed is a understatement.
Unchecked growth in government at all levels has left more and more people dependant on some form of support these days.  In 1996 Louisiana's budget was 11.9 Billion dollars.  This year it was over 28 Billion.  An increase of one hundred and forty four percent (144%).  All while Louisiana's population has declined over one (1%) percent.
The parish of St. Tammany had a budget of 66 … (3 comments)

st tammany property taxes: Tired of High Property Taxes? Then Buy a Tree Farm - 07/14/09 12:05 PM
I have been looking at several fine homes on forested land in the Folsom area of St. Tammany Parish lately.  I have stumbled upon several homes that pay less taxes than I do.  I asked several home owners but none would really answer the question until last week.
Seems as long as you have three and a half acres minimum you may qualify.  For example one property worth $400,000 pays just over a grand a year in property taxes.  WHAT, are you kidding me?  No, all you have to do is go to the assessors office and fill out the paperwork … (5 comments)

st tammany property taxes: Raise the Louisiana Homestead Exemption - 05/12/09 02:14 PM
Tell the Legislature: Support HB 259 and SB 47! Adjust the Homestead Exemption Against Inflation (or at least let the voters - not politicians - decide!)

Dear Citizens of Louisiana,

Thank you for signing the petition calling for adjustment of the Homestead Exemption against inflation. The Legislature is now open and we're in a critical moment as the Ways and Means Committee is currently holding up this common sense, pro-homeowner legislation. I need your help. Please take a few minutes to call, write or email your state Senator and Representative and tell them to support Louisiana homeowners by giving … (0 comments)

st tammany property taxes: Louisiana Distric 76 Town Hall Meeting with Kevin Pearson - 03/26/09 03:30 PM
Monday April 6, Kevin Pearson, the representative of District 76 in the Slidell Louisiana area will be conducting a town hall meeting at the Slidell Municipal Auditorium.  The time is from 6-8 p.m.  He is promoting his bill elevating. not raising the homestead exemption in Louisiana.  Under this bill the first $10,000 of every home in the state would be taxed and the next $75,000 will be exempt.  Anything over $85,000 will be taxable.
This would spread out the cost of taxes to everyone.  Everyone uses these services.  He intends to file the bill before the April 17 deadline.
I am of the opinion if everyone has to … (0 comments)

st tammany property taxes: Online Petition to Louisiana Lawmakers to Raise Homestead Exemption - 01/26/09 01:31 PM
I don't know how many of my fellow citizens received or saw their 2008 property tax bill this year.  I live in St. Tammany and I assure you mine went up 300% this year.   Before hurricane Katrina I paid a little over $800.  My new bill is now over $2200.  In this economy where every nickel counts the greedy hand of government wants more of my hard earned dollars.
The homestead exemption for Louisiana is currently $75,000.  If they had indexed this to inflation it would be around $150,000.  So whats happening is an unfair burden is falling on the working people.  My parents … (6 comments)

st tammany property taxes: Property Taxes St Tammany - 11/07/08 12:13 PM
Seems most of the taxing boards in St. Tammanywill roll back their millage to help compensate for increased property tax rolls.  The school board and parish government would not seek any increase in revenue.  The school board alone is over fifty percent.  The fire districts in Covington and Lacombe indicated they would seek an increase.  Also the First fire district in Slidell would seek an increase.  I don't know for sure if Eagle Point Subdivision falls within the first district.  None of the boards would say how much they would seek.  I hope they don't get too greedy.

I hope everyone who wants to contest their property taxes has filed their appeals.  I don't think the assessor is going to roll over and go easy.  I have included a link to wwl radio where assessor Core and parish president debate this assessment.  I can still give you information on homes sold in your area for free.  Here is a link to listen to the assessor onWWL radio this morning.  You will find it on the lower right hand side.  Good Luck

st tammany property taxes: Property Tax Appeals - 10/13/08 06:44 PM
Just a reminder for residents of St Tammany Parish that this coming Thursday is the deadline to appeal your new property assessment.  I have already written two letters to residents to give them a fair market value of their home.  The assessments were raised since four years ago.  As you know in this difficult market we are currently in, many will not sell for this new amount.  Don't give up without a fight.  This is your money not theirs.

st tammany property taxes: St Tammany Parish Public Meetings - 10/04/08 12:44 PM
If you haven't received your letter from the St Tammany Parish assessor you will shortly.  Bad news our taxes have jumped considerably.  I urge everyone to visit the websiteand view their new valuations.  I also urge everyone to attend the public meeting to voice your opinion to these boards to roll back millages.  If you intend to sell your home one day you need to do this.
Factor in the increase cost of insurance on top of higher property taxes and your house isn't that affordable any longer to most potential buyers.  These dates for the meetings will be on the … (0 comments)

st tammany property taxes: St Tammany Property Taxes - 10/02/08 11:02 AM
Those of us that have property in St Tammany Parish can go to the website and see the damage.  This was a re-assessment year.  My taxes doubled and I am sure yours did also.  I believe you have two weeks to challenge these new assessments.  This is going to be hard on homeowners hitting when the economy is in a downturn.  A kind of double whammy.  If you go to the site be patient the sever must be near over loaded.

st tammany property taxes: St Tammany Property Taxes - 09/15/08 06:56 PM

Property owners in St. Tammany parish will have from Oct2-Oct16 to review their assessments and appeal them in writing to either the Slidell or Covington office.  These dates were changed because of hurricane Gustav.  Here is a link to access the website and view your taxes for the upcoming year.
Despite the recent decrease in property values across the parish many properties have appraised much higher than they were four years ago.  If you need help contact me at your pleasure.

st tammany property taxes: Property Taxes - 09/10/08 03:39 PM
Residents of St. Tammany parish have until September 15th to view their property taxes for the next tax year.  You can find them online or go to one of the two locations in the parish.  The tax assessors has said that values have gone up.  I wonder if she took in effect the latest year of prices into consideration?  I would hate to see them do with less money.
