university city: Good News for Powelton Village and Mantua - 10/06/10 01:43 PM
Drexel University's new president, John Fry, announced a goal of improving the neighborhoods surrounding Drexel's campus. Given that he was part of Penn's initiatives to improve University City during the 1990's and 2000's I think it's safe to be optimistic that he will have a positive impact on the Powelton Village and Mantua neighborhoods just north of Drexel. Along with expanding Drexel's security presence, Mr. Fry announced plans to encourage Drexel employees to purchase and maintain homes in the neighborhood, and also spoke of cracking-down on sub-standard off-campus housing, a serious problem that too often flies under the radar throughout Philadelphia.

university city: University City Cafe Culture - 07/21/09 02:08 PM
University City is one of my favorite neighborhoods in Philadelphia. One reason is the concentration of great cafes and coffee shops that make it so easy to meet up with old friends over brunch, read a Sunday paper while sipping a cappuccino, or just grab a cup of joe on your way to catch the trolley. The community newspaper, The University City Review, recently published a nice summary of the neighborhood's various coffee shops and cafes which you can read here. I have to wonder if there's anywhere else in the world where you can find such a variety of cafes … (0 comments)

How many times have I heard my investor clients say "I'd like to buy this house but I'd really LOVE to buy this whole block!"? I hear it all the time!
In Philadelphia making a good real estate investment is just as much about the block, street and neighborhood that you buy into as it is about the property itself. This means two things for investors:
