flathead valley: Flathead Valley News and Notes May 11, 2012 - 05/11/12 07:28 PM
Nothing but sun, some warm days and some cooler ones. Who cares when the grass is green and the sun is out! Farmer's Market downtown Kalispell is on the agenda for Saturday morning. A little early for fresh produce, but still fun to make an appearance and see who we might run into. The Whitefish Pilot had this video on their web site. It is taken by a remote helicopter: http://vimeo.com/41796539 Good shot of construction on Casey's Bar in Whitefish but also of Whitefish and the valley.

Going to the Sun road plowing in Glacier National Park has started! After a record late opening last year, let's hope for a record early opening this year. Keep up on the plowing progress http://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/gttsroadplow/gttsroadplowstatus.cfm
There was valley snow yesterday morning after wonderful warm and sunny days last week. Springtime in Montana, going back and forth from winter to summer.
City of Kalispell has hired a new City Manager from S. Dakota. He will be the 9th City Manager since that position was formed.
I listed an incredible ranch recently.

flathead valley: Flathead Valley News and Notes March 21, 2012 - 03/21/12 06:15 AM
What is going on in the Flathead Valley in the business arena?
It seems that the valley is becoming well known among the gun aficionados in the country. There are 2 manufactures operating on an ever growing scale. One company manufactures wood barrels for rifles and recently won national recognition, Montana Rifle Company. There is an article in today's Flathead Beacon paper about another gun maker in Kalispell that is moving and expanding, adding employees.
Nemo Arms manufactures a whole different kind of weapon; nemoarms.com. Local Bigfork resident Major General Paul E. Vallely retired, is one of the gentlemen at the helm. One of the goals of this … (0 comments)

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: December 2, 2011 - 12/02/11 08:06 AM
Flathead Valley activities are ramping up quickly leading to Christmas:
Tonight, December 2 - Kalispell ArtWalk from 5-9pm
Shepherd's Hand Clinic in Whitefish has a benefit tonight at Christ Lutheran Church. Free to attend but donations accepted. This clinic has been in place for many years helping those without insurance. One of my personal favorite physicians, Jay Erickson, and his wife started this program and have donated untold hours to helping those in need of medical care in our valley. Shepherdshand.com. The benefit starts at 7pm.
I am once again singing the praises of our excellent medical care in the valley. … (0 comments)

November! Snow is on Big Mtn, some valley snow possible the end of the week. Unlike the NE part of the country, we had no snow in October in the Flathead Valley.
Kalispell restaurant update:
1) Applebees in front of Costco will be opening soon to add to the choices at the north end of Kalispell
2) Doug and Vonnie Day are changing their restaurant format over to more casual pub type of eatery on Main Street called Hops Restaurant and Grill. Always on the lookout for a great burger, I'll let you know how it is.,

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: August 7, 2011 - 09/08/11 09:44 PM
Went riding with a friend one morning last week at Herron Park. Herron Park is very close to Kalispell and near Foys Lake. In the meadows there are cross country and stadium jumps and 2 dressage rings. Taking trails into the hills there are trails for everyone from horseback, mountain bike, hiking, trail running. My friend and I climbed to the top and were rewarded with these NW views from the top.

Busy weekend at the ranch. We hosted a Kathleen Lindley clinic over the weekend. 6 riders came together to work on what ever need work. From ground work to riding, we saw it all. Kathleen will be back next year to the Flathead Valley  for a longer clinic. John's Angels brought lunch each day and appetizers at the end of the clinic, LOVED their food! The Hofstad goats added some stimulation to a couple of the horses and provided a great training opportunity.

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: May 28, 2011 - 05/28/11 03:23 PM
The first 3 day weekend is upon us in the Flathead Valley. Hotels and resorts are reporting an increase in bookings for this summer. Last year was way up and this year might even surpass it. If you plan on staying in a historic Glacier Park Lodge this summer, be aware that my favorite: Many Glacier Lodge is at 1/2 capacity due to renovations. Click on http://www.glacierparkinc.com/ for information and reservations. This company is located in Columbia Falls and employs local residents so you will get a great deal of information and assistance from them. Lingering snowpack is effecting some of the lodgings … (0 comments)

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: April 30, 2011 - 04/30/11 01:17 PM
Last weekend there were approximately 7000 attendees to Fresh Life Church's Easter service at Majestic Valley Arena! That is the capacity and it was standing room only so therefore the estimate. We were blown away by all the people who had parked along Hwy 93 and Church Drive and walked to the arena. Instead of saying "let's go get some breakfast and skip it", they parked where they could and walked along the highway and on gravel roads to get to the service. Amazing!
Many Alberta license plates were in evidence Easter week. We are ever thankful for our visitors to … (0 comments)

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: March 31, 2011 - 03/31/11 04:26 PM
It is Spring Break week in the Flathead Valley. The weather is getting warmer but it is also rainy. Only a little snow left around where it was plowed into piles. Some parts of the valley see grass starting to green up. I noticed the Buffalo Hills Golf Course in Kalispell starting to turn that wonderful spring green.
City of Kalispell is negotiating with the fire fighters union. I hate to see such essential services such as this be a victim of budget cuts. Talk of privatizing ambulance service. Many young men and women do an awesome job for the city, … (0 comments)

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: March 10, 2011 - 03/10/11 08:34 AM
After a little trip to relax and refresh, I am back and happy to announce it is still ski season! So much snow on Big Mountain this year. Kalispell has had only 49" which is below normal. You would never guess that though with so much still on the ground.
The Daily Interlake had articles this week about how the Flathead Valley benefits from our Canadian neighbors. With only 2 hrs between us and the border and the exchange rate being beneficial, Canadians continue to shop, ski, golf, use our medical facilities and purchase homes. Kalispell Regional Hospital has a concierge … (0 comments)

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: November 20, 2010 - 11/20/10 11:43 AM
I am looking out my window on this cold and windy Saturday at the remnants of snow on the roof. Wind chill is brrr! Blanketed the horses, shut the chickens in, left the heat lamp on for the goats and plan on staying inside!
Kalispell bypass officially opened this week. After decades of discussions the south end starting south of town and ending at Hwy 2, is completed. I frankly thought this would never happen in my lifetime, but there you go, it exists.
This is still the shoulder season in the valley. Ski hills open the first … (0 comments)

    2 words: Rebecca Farms!
The largest equestrian triathlon in the USA is right here in Kalispell. Starts today and continues thru the weekend. 18 horses were flown in Monday from Baltimore. This event is a qualifier for the World Cup as well as the Olympics. I get goose bumps every time I drive by the farm and see fields of horse trailers. I will again volunteer to be a jump judge on the x-country course on Friday. Always fun to sit right there where the action is. Public is welcome and it is free. www.rebeccafarm.org see: The Event.

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: May 6, 2010 - 05/06/10 08:03 AM
The city of Kalispell officially voted to NOT allow the growth of medical marijuana in the city limits. It was in the Daily Interlake everyday for awhile but is now voted down.
School elections were held this week. New board members for the various districts are now in place. Where I live there are 2 districts. What we call a "country school" district which is an elementary that goes up to grade 8 and then the Kalispell district for high school. Most of the valley is like this with many country schools take care of the lower grades unless you are … (0 comments)

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: January 8, 2010 - 01/08/10 06:59 AM
Weather and skiing: Winter definitely arrived in the past week. Valley snow, wind, cold and awesome Rocky Mountain Views on the clear sunny days. Whitefish Mountain Resort received copious amounts of snow. Skiing was great this week with views for forever. See Video below taken from chair 2 of the Flathead Valley and Whitefish Lake - which is pretty much frozen across at this point. Free night skiing this Saturday night thanks to the Kalispell Ski Club. We are going up with the family.

flathead valley: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: November 27, 2009 - 11/27/09 07:20 AM
I saw an interesting commercial on t.v. yesterday; "Bigfork, Open All Year". Bigfork is one of 4 towns in our valley. Situated on the NE corner of Flathead Lake, it is a hopping place in the summer. Very picturesque sitting on the canal leading to the lake. The "elves" decorate Bigfork for the holidays. I most like Bigfork in the winter when it is quiet and not crowded. Galleries, great restaurants, and just wandering through town is relaxing and scenic. In the summer you can drive your boat to the public dock and then walk around from there. Summer also … (0 comments)

Summer continues!! The weather has been nothing but sunny and warm. The garden continues to produce and we are taking every summer day we can get!!
Took in some amazing homes last Friday on the Parade of Homes put on by the Flathead Building Association. Outstanding craftmanship in some of the homes I visited.
Kalispell Chamber of Commerce had their monthly luncheon at the Flathead Community College this week. I cannot say enough about this educational resource right here in our valley. Enrollment is up 38% this year! There are many programs that enable students to stay in … (0 comments)
