glacier national park: Weather Change Just in Time for First Day of Summer! - 06/20/14 06:12 AM
It has been a daunting week in the Flathead Valley. Between 2-6" of rain fell in 2 days setting a record and putting us well ahead of the normal average rain fall. Glacier National Park got 6-8" of rain in the lower elevations and 14-16" of SNOW in the higher elevations. I spent 2 days wearing rain gear just to go outside, unheard of.
Because the weather is now near 80 degrees with sunshine, flooding is being watched out for in "the park" as well as some trails being closed due to the overwhelming wetness on the ground. It is still … (0 comments)

https://www.flickr.com/photos/glaciernps/ Is the source for updated photos of the plowing on Going to the Sun Highway. Projected fully open on June 20th - always a guess depending on weather between now and then. SO, if you are flying or driving in before that date, plan on biking/walking on the highway from Avalanche Creek. Kind of a fun time with no vehicles allowed past then.

glacier national park: Glacier National Park on a February Saturday - 02/16/14 01:33 AM
It was a warmish, sunny day so we drove up to "the Park" yesterday. Stopped at Montana Coffee Traders in Columbia Falls on the way. It was Cabin Fever Days in Martin City - just west of the park so saw some action in that "town". We drove along Lake McDonald observing the beauty that was snow covered. The lake had some ice but was not solid. Went back to Apgar, walked through the art store then took a walk through the trees. The walk had been packed down with snow shoes and cross country skis so it was an easy … (2 comments)

glacier national park: Kalispell, Montana: Ranked #11 by Money Magazine - Top City to Retire - 10/22/13 02:44 AM
Out of the 25 Best Cities to Retire: Kalispell ranked number 11.  For years we have attracted retirees that like an out doors and active life style. With Flathead Lake  - largest fresh water lake west of the Mississippi -, skiing, Glacier National Park in our backyard, golf courses and many other activities, it is no wonder this is a great place for people to move to when looking around the country for a place to retire!
What a beautiful fall!! I am looking out my office window at the larch trees dotting the hillsides with color, sun is shining and … (1 comments)

glacier national park: Sophie Lake in NW Montana - 09/12/13 11:00 PM
I have always heard about the lakes near the Canadian Border. We took our camper up to Rexford MT on Lake Koocanusa and camped at the National Forest Rexford Bench Campground. Took a drive up to Lake Tetrault and Sophie Lake. It was a hot September day and many  people were enjoying all three bodies of water. A very picturesque part of Montana. Also, here is a link to the new and improved Glacier National Park webcams http://www.nps.gov/glac/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm

glacier national park: Beautiful Time of Year in the Flathead Valley! - 07/01/13 05:39 AM
While I am not a fan of consuming canola oil, it sure is pretty when we have fields of yellow to look at this time of year.
We locals start to whine this time of year, but at the same time all the tourists are good for the local economy. Rv's are going through town to get to locations in the valley and Glacier National Park. Costco is jammed, especially right before the 4th of July. We went from spring to HOT! 90's this week but the whole west is in a heat wave. AC is not a requirement to live … (1 comments)

glacier national park: St. Mary and the east side of Glacier National Park - 06/17/13 06:26 AM
We took 3 days to camp at the KOA in St. Mary. What an ideal location! 5 min. to the east entrance of the park. 30 min to Many Glacier - my all time favorite part of the park. 2 min from restaurants and conveniences in St. Mary itself. Very close to Babb and the Canadian border as well. Many Glacier Lodge had just opened for the season. What an amazing renovation of the historic dining room! When we stayed there a few years ago, it was the ugly 1960's reno that we experienced. Now it is like it was meant … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Update: January 13, 2013 - 01/12/13 11:24 PM
Some of you may know that I am a food coach as well as a personal trainer in addition to my real estate profession. I decided this month to mix it up in my workout by joining a crossfit gym. http://www.crossfitlibertas.com/ is the closest "box" to where I live so I started there on Jan. 4 for the on ramp classes. These are 5 personal training sessions to introduce the moves involved in Olympic weight lifting as well as box jumps and other necessary skills in order to participate in the WOD (work out of the day). I finished on ramp Friday … (1 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Real Estate Update September 4, 2012 - 09/04/12 06:36 AM
Schools are under way in the Flathead Valley. Traffic is slowly returning to our less congested "normal" as tourism subsides for the summer. Things are dry, dry, dry, outside. The valley has been fortunate to not get involved in any fires so far this year. We had a couple of days with smoke in the valley from some Idaho fires, but that is the extent of our fire season experience. Avalanche Creek trail in Glacier National Park has been close due to a fire there. It is not having much activity but being watched carefully. Most of the Montana fires this … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Update: August 25, 2012 - 08/25/12 02:07 AM
I am noticing a ramp up in commercial construction in the valley lately. Kalispell Regional Hospital is finishing up a new surgical wing for one example. Another is the purchase of an old brick warehouse building across from the old train depot in Kalispell. There has been a major gutting of this building as well as dismantling of the old additions on the back. A pub sign was recently posted so that will be fun to watch proceed. A great historic building finds a new use. An apartment complex to be built on Center Street in Kalispell got the go ahead from the city so that will … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Summer Fun - 07/02/12 12:13 AM
Friday: trip up to Glacier National Park, walked on the South Boundary Trail and watched the rafters come down the Middle Fork of the Flathead River. Would have been a longer hike if we had thought of bug spray. Renewed our annual park pass and wandered around Lake McDonald and Apgar. Came out of the park via Camas Road turning onto the North Fork Road. Swung through Big Creek campground spotting sites to camp along the river.
Saturday: Afternoon spent down at Dayton on Flathead Lake cleaning the sailboat and replacing lines. Beautiful weather and fun social time at the docks.

glacier national park: Flathead Valley News and Notes May 5, 2012 - 05/05/12 03:54 AM
I was driving along Flathead Lake yesterday heading north and was thinking about how I never tire of seeing the white capped mountains and the beautiful blue of "the" lake. The lake level is regulated by dams and is filling in nicely getting close to the full pool goal by Memorial Day weekend.  Boat docks are still high and dry but the shoreline has water covering the areas that were bare just a couple of weeks ago. Cherry trees are blossoming for even more beauty along Hwy 93.
Glacier National Park plowing is proceeding well. There are some amazing photos on … (1 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: April 26, 2011 - 04/26/12 03:32 AM
We experienced 2 days of 80+ degrees early this week! Those warm days followed an exceptionally nice weekend to get all the outdoor chores started for the spring. Today it is cooler and a little wetter but it sure is nice and green around here. Trees are leafing out, Flathead lake is slowly rising to full pool and valley residents can be seen making every effort to get outside and enjoy our activities.

Here is a photo that was posted by Glacier National Park of the plowing in Two Medicine camp ground. Just a "little" snow!! Speaking of snow, Whitefish Resort … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: March 16, 2012 - 04/16/12 01:10 AM
Going to the Sun road plowing in Glacier National Park has started! After a record late opening last year, let's hope for a record early opening this year. Keep up on the plowing progress http://home.nps.gov/applications/glac/gttsroadplow/gttsroadplowstatus.cfm
There was valley snow yesterday morning after wonderful warm and sunny days last week. Springtime in Montana, going back and forth from winter to summer.
City of Kalispell has hired a new City Manager from S. Dakota. He will be the 9th City Manager since that position was formed.
I listed an incredible ranch recently.
10 acres, 2 horse barns, shop, guest house, run in sheds, huge … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: December 10, 2011 - 12/10/11 12:16 AM
A beautiful sight yesterday afternoon: full moon rising over Glacier National Park! Blue sky, snow on the Swan Range of the Rockies, incredible. I never tire of looking at the view that surrounds me in the Flathead Valley.
It was a week of sunny days which did not help either Blacktail or Whitefish Mountain Resort to add to their snow base for skiing. Never the less, both areas are opening today. Big Mountain will have reduced lift tickets and limited terrain open for skiing. They have been making snow on the mountain to add to the snow nature has been rather … (1 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: August 27, 2011 - 09/08/11 02:43 PM
Some schools started this week but summer and tourist season is still in full swing. I have had 2 real estate sales close in the last week. One of my listings I sold myself to a woman from Texas closed last week and she is moving in today after a long drive. The closing this week was for the veterinarian at Alpine Vet. Hospital in Whitefish. Awesome young family and great addition to our valley. More and more out of state buyers are trickling into the valley. I have 2 more for sure coming in the next month. Traditionally, fall is … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: June 4, 2011 - 06/04/11 01:22 AM
Really, this is more of a Glacier National Park plowing update. Our weather is not helping the plowing crews in the park. Rain in the valley means snow in the mountains. Continued colder weather than this weekend warm may bring avalanches. Here are links to the plowing photos and status of the Going to the Sun Road opening now projected to be June 17. It is currently open to Avalanche campground.

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: May 28, 2011 - 05/28/11 08:23 AM
The first 3 day weekend is upon us in the Flathead Valley. Hotels and resorts are reporting an increase in bookings for this summer. Last year was way up and this year might even surpass it. If you plan on staying in a historic Glacier Park Lodge this summer, be aware that my favorite: Many Glacier Lodge is at 1/2 capacity due to renovations. Click on http://www.glacierparkinc.com/ for information and reservations. This company is located in Columbia Falls and employs local residents so you will get a great deal of information and assistance from them. Lingering snowpack is effecting some of the lodgings … (0 comments)

glacier national park: Flathead Valley Weekly Update: May 12, 2011 - 05/12/11 11:09 AM
A God inspired deal. I had a listing for almost 4 years when I convinced the sellers who recently moved away, to rent the house and take it off the market. They had come on the market originally just when things were slowing down and in the past 4 years did price reductions but were always behind the market. They "needed" the greater proceeds for retirement so were unwilling to lower the price to where it needed to be in the current market. After a month and not being able to rent the house, I emailed them and suggested they … (0 comments)
