I was driving along Flathead Lake yesterday heading north and was thinking about how I never tire of seeing the white capped mountains and the beautiful blue of "the" lake. The lake level is regulated by dams and is filling in nicely getting close to the full pool goal by Memorial Day weekend. Boat docks are still high and dry but the shoreline has water covering the areas that were bare just a couple of weeks ago. Cherry trees are blossoming for even more beauty along Hwy 93.

We experienced 2 days of 80+ degrees early this week! Those warm days followed an exceptionally nice weekend to get all the outdoor chores started for the spring. Today it is cooler and a little wetter but it sure is nice and green around here. Trees are leafing out, Flathead lake is slowly rising to full pool and valley residents can be seen making every effort to get outside and enjoy our activities.

There was valley snow yesterday morning after wonderful warm and sunny days last week. Springtime in Montana, going back and forth from winter to summer.
City of Kalispell has hired a new City Manager from S. Dakota. He will be the 9th City Manager since that position was formed.

A beautiful sight yesterday afternoon: full moon rising over Glacier National Park! Blue sky, snow on the Swan Range of the Rockies, incredible. I never tire of looking at the view that surrounds me in the Flathead Valley.
It was a week of sunny days which did not help either Blacktail or Whitefish Mountain Resort to add to their snow base for skiing. Never the less, both areas are opening today. Some schools started this week but summer and tourist season is still in full swing. I have had 2 real estate sales close in the last week. One of my listings I sold myself to a woman from Texas closed last week and she is moving in today after a long drive. The closing this week was for the veterinarian at Alpine Vet. Hospital in Whitefish. Awesome young family and great addition to our valley. More and more out of state buyers are trickling into the valley. I have 2 more for sure coming in the next month. Really, this is more of a Glacier National Park plowing update. Our weather is not helping the plowing crews in the park. Rain in the valley means snow in the mountains. Continued colder weather than this weekend warm may bring avalanches. Here are links to the plowing photos and status of the Going to the Sun Road opening now projected to be June 17. It is currently open to Avalanche campground.

The first 3 day weekend is upon us in the Flathead Valley. Hotels and resorts are reporting an increase in bookings for this summer. Last year was way up and this year might even surpass it. If you plan on staying in a historic Glacier Park Lodge this summer, be aware that my favorite: Many Glacier Lodge is at 1/2 capacity due to renovations. A God inspired deal. I had a listing for almost 4 years when I convinced the sellers who recently moved away, to rent the house and take it off the market. They had come on the market originally just when things were slowing down and in the past 4 years did price reductions but were always behind the market. New Years weekend saw me busy showing homes to 3 buyer groups. 1 local web site contacts, 1 web contact from OK, 1 local past client. Showings from Kalispell to Whitefish, bank owned to not. Lots of variety.
We have had snow and more snow in the valley and on the ski hill. Really starting to pile up. Temps have warmed which we are appreciating.
This weekend starts the guided snowshoe excursions in Glacier National Park. Saturdays and Sundays, just show up with your snowshoes and join in. Lone Pine State Park is offering some guided walks as well.

Heading to Bigfork today to bid at the Glacier Bank auction on a Flathead Lake condo on behalf of a buyer. VERY low reserve at $136,900, last list price was close to $300k. Should be a fun experience. Hope my clients win the bid.
Rain, rain and more rain. We have had some sun this week but mostly it has been cold in the mornings with scattered showers. I never remember things being so green and not having a killing frost this far into September. Trees are turning and it is an invigorating time of year.

There is snow on the hills! A few more days to take advantage of the Whitefish Mountain Resort season pass discount to get up there and ski. This is an La Nina year so should be lots of snow. I have my pass, do you have yours?
Last weekend to drive the Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park from West Glacier. Logan's Pass access will be closed to enable crews to get more work done before winter. Cherry harvest, Model T's crawling all over the valley, Kalispell by-pass progress.
Bigfork will be very busy this weekend. Cherry harvest is in full swing around Flathead Lake.Get them before it is too late! The fun - shut down the streets - art festival is happening in Bigfork this weekend. Park outside town and take a shuttle. Weather should be ideal.
Model T's have been seen all over the valley from as far away as New Zeland.
Kalispell by-pass is making great progress. First section anticipated to be completed by October.

Can you believe July is coming to an end?!
The City of Whitefish is once again grappling with Hwy 93 retail expansion. The merchants downtown are fighting it. The flip side is that if Whitefish does not allow such growth, it pushes retail shoppers 15 min. south into Kalispell. Whitefish also charges a very minor resort sales tax on retail that does not assist generating shoppers in that town.

Should have had a camera, but didn't, so will try and describe the amazing view this morning. I took my horse to Herron Park in Kalispell early to beat the heat. We rode up and up to the overlook. The Foys to Blacktail trail workers have been hard at it and the horse trail is much improved from previous years. Anyway, at the lookout this is what I could see, Big Mountain, Glacier National Park, blue/green Foys Lake, Swan range of the Rockies, and down to Flathead Lake. Big news: Walmart super store opened yesterday at the north end of Kalispell. Finally more than just Costco close to home for groceries.
Packed in a lot of summer fun last weekend. Met some friends who were camping at Apgar in Glacier National Park and rode bikes for a few hours. Ate lunch by the Middle Fork of the Flahtead River and saw the raft racers going by. An incredibly nice day. Came home and found one of our bee hives had swarmed. Election week: mostly primaries but we do have a new Flathead County Sheriff. West Valley School Bond - badly needed expansion in this desirable country school district. I have not heard if that passed yet or not.
Some scattered showings on my listings in the last week. 2 townhouse buyers I am working with, over all a little quiet. Summer traffic is definitely building.
