Alpine Theater Project http://atpwhitefish.org/ is opening Les Miserables School Edition this weekend in Whitefish. Taking students from area schools and having them act in a well known play. We went to a school edition play a couple of years ago and were very impressed!

Big Mountain has received 2 FEET of snow in the last 2 days, wow! The sky is clear and the moon is out early this morning, should be a good ski day. Heading to church and then to get an offer signed, hopefully still sunny for skiing this afternoon.

Some snow has finally fallen this week on the Big Mountain in Whitefish. The valley still has the remnants of the USA and Canadian holiday weekend. I was surprised how many families on vacation were on the mountain yesterday when I was skiing. Like skiwhitefish.com said this week, "2 weeks of lines and 15 weeks of no lines". Christmas week and Presidents weekend week are the busy 2. It is all relative though. Compared to other areas, our lines are nothing.
High school basketball playoffs are picking up steam. We may go watch the Glacier High Wolfpack play Helena tonight. Always … (0 comments)

2 interesting business updates that just came out in the Daily Interlake newspaper. The old hospital building in Whitefish which had been bank owned after a previous buyer defaulted, has been sold to a firm planning on using the building for a 4 year college. We have Flathead Valley Community college in the valley that serves a wide population and some 4 year degrees are possible through that school. In fact FVCC has nearly completed a medical building for nursing students and surgical techs.

It is the beginning of the yearly Whitefish Carnival season. Yesterday, was the first day of skijoring a competition where a rider on horseback pulls a skier or snowboarder around a course with curves and jumps. All righty then, I will NOT be skiing today. Had planned on it as the weather was supposed to be awesome, but there is now a winter weather advisory and the skiwhitefish.com site that sends me auto emails on ski reports, just said the wind is howling at the summit 20-30 mph, no thanks! We went up yesterday morning and stayed on Chair 2 which is finally open. Fast runs, no people, good snow. Stayed there as the summit still looked fogged in. On this day before Thanksgiving, we step back and count our blessings for living in such an amazing corner of the country. While it rained yesterday, promises for a LOT of snow are in the forecast starting tonight. Ski season is a mere 2 weeks away and we are praying for lots of big dumps at Whitefish Mountain Resort!

Great for the valley even if we don't enjoy the actual show The Bachelor. Last night there was a concert in downtown Whitefish. Country singer Sarah Darling did a free to the public concert with the current Bachelor competitors. I could see that Big Mountain (Whitefish Mountain Resort) had the night sking lights on the slopes visible from my house. Maybe some filming was happening there too?  The lights are visible from town so added some atmosphere for the concert filming.

Pretty exciting and a vote for an improving economy in the Flathead Valley. Cabelas tracks catalog orders and it looks like this valley deserves an actual store. Cabelas to begin construction next spring targeting a fall opening, hmm maybe timed for hunting season??
The Daily Interlake had a very interesting article on beer breweries in NW Montana. It seems we are 2nd per capita in the nation for micro breweries. Flathead Lake Brewery in Bigfork is opening in the former large building of the bowling alley in town. Their business is expanding and they needed more room. ​The yearly average visitor numbers in Glacier National Park are around 2 million. I think they all decided to make this the week they visited our valley! Now, keep in mind we really don't deal with traffic in this valley except for in the summer, but there were unbelievable backups going through Kalispell and to the major shopping area on Hwy 93 this week. I was not excited to be part of a record day for shoppers at Costco on July 3rd - and that was at 3pm! Yep, in my gmail box this a.m. was a snow report! Big Mountain got 22" in the last 24 hours. Of course ski season is over but I bet there were a few hiking up and skiing what they could yesterday. The Flathead Valley received 1.5" of rain as of noon on Wed. in a 24 hr period. No small feat when you consider the annual rainfall is just 16". Full day of sun today after the storm.

Nothing but sun, some warm days and some cooler ones. Who cares when the grass is green and the sun is out! Farmer's Market downtown Kalispell is on the agenda for Saturday morning. A little early for fresh produce, but still fun to make an appearance and see who we might run into. The Whitefish Pilot had this video on their web site. As I write this blog, it is snowing big flakes outside my window. Our snow pack is about 52% of normal and the ski hill has half as much snow as a year ago - of course that was a record year. Snow is in the forecast for the next week so skiers rejoice!
There are a number of investors in the market looking at multi-family and commercial real estate. I had a commercial listing just close and showings on the duplex units I have listed. Job ads at Job Service and in the local paper are definitely on the rise. … (0 comments)

Weather: for some reason this is the first thing that comes to mind this week. After many sunny and warm (for winter) days, it is snowing this morning. Still warm and may end up raining in the valley but the ski hills should benefit. It has been a slow start to skiing this year. Big Mtn received 7" the other night which led to avalanche control measures. This weekend should see the start to more stable snow fall and better conditions. A beautiful sight yesterday afternoon: full moon rising over Glacier National Park! Blue sky, snow on the Swan Range of the Rockies, incredible. I never tire of looking at the view that surrounds me in the Flathead Valley.
It was a week of sunny days which did not help either Blacktail or Whitefish Mountain Resort to add to their snow base for skiing. Never the less, both areas are opening today. Well, I guess winter is here. Beautiful sunshine on the new snow today after off and on blizzard type weather the last couple of days. Whitefish Mountain Resort opens December 3 for skiing so getting some nice assistance from the weather. From the valley floor, the slopes are clearly covered in white.

The trees - Aspen and Birch - are changing colors. It is getting dark earlier and we had a heavy rain last night. Sometimes fall is a welcome relief from all the things to do in the Flathead Valley in the summer. It is okay to stay inside at night and relax, without packing the long daylight hours in the summer full of fun and necessary things to do.
Saturday and Sunday the 8-9th, the Kalispell Ski Club does their ski swap at the Flathead County Fairgrounds. Time to buy and sell used and new ski equipment and pick up that … (0 comments)

Wow, what incredible weather we had for the entire month! Helped make up for the rainy June. Today is the last day to get your ski pass for the Whitefish Mountain Resort at the early season discounted rate. Supposed to be another La Nina so mucho snow!
High school sports are in full fall season force. Flathead High and Glacier High are doing very well in both football and girl's volleyball. 
Time to get the final harvest from the garden, still no hard frost which is unusual for the end of September.
