The week in news in Kansas BANKING Here in the Heart of America we tend to not feel many waves as we didn’t feel the extreme highs of the real estate market and also in turn didn’t feel the severe lows. However, it was shocking to learn today that 3 banks are in serious trouble in Kansas. As Kansans I think we feel like it

economy: Kansas Farmland Index Update - 05/12/11 01:39 PM
The Farmland Price index is a monthly index value done by Creighton University and it is number from 0 to 100 and is based up surveys of rural banks in agriculture areas including Kansas. The states in the Farmland Price Index include Colorado, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. The overall reading is now 77.6 for April which is up from 75 in March. A number greater than 50 is indication that land prices are going up. economy: Business economy in Kansas up last month - 03/02/11 09:39 AM
The Kansas Reporter headline reads Kansas' business economy strengthened in February and reports that Kansas had a jump of seven points on the business index to 60.1 which is above the 50 mark of growth neutral. The Business Index Report compiled by Creighton University economist Ernie Goss. They reported that employment is still down but as long as wholesale prices do not increase substantially that conditions will probably continue to improve. The Business Conditions Index surveys supply managers in nine Midwestern states, including Kansas, Iowa, Arkansas, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Missouri, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota. BANKING Here in the Heart of America we tend to not feel many waves as we didn't feel the extreme highs of the real estate market and also in turn didn't feel the severe lows. However, it was shocking to learn today that 3 banks are in serious trouble in Kansas. As Kansans I think we feel like it is always happening somewhere else! Nonetheless these banks were issues cease and desist orders from the FDIC and you can read more details in the Wichita Business Journal.
