investing: Buying at Auction - 05/03/12 08:18 AM
Buying at Auction
This is totally off-topic for our usual posts relating to Kansas land.  However, we recently finished a long-term project with a client and helped them sell many items in addition to their land.  They had three self-storage units full of stuff where they paid for storage at self-storage business locations plus they had storage boxes on the land.  We worked with them to sell their items on eBay and clean out the storage boxes on the land so they could be removed and the land would present better to potential buyers.  In the course of this project which … (2 comments)

Here at Kansas Land Brokers we truly enjoy good quotes about investing in real estate and especially land investing.  We noticed an interesting trend recently when searching for quotes for our weekly Twitter land quote that many of the investment quotes were by Presidents in the late 1850's and early 1900s.

investing: Summary of FDIC webinar Don't Bet the Farm - Assessing the Boom in Farmland Prices - 03/10/11 11:52 AM
The seminar put on by the FDIC in streaming video webinar format this morning titled Don't Bet the Farm - Assesing the Boom in Farmland Prices was very interesting with a panel of speakers in various fields such as banking, agricultural professors and economists.  The one group that was blatantly not represented was the actual farmer or agricultural producer which was odd. It seemed that a representative from farming should have been there to give input on such an important topic.
The conclusions from most of the speakers were not really anything new or surprising as so much press coverage and media commentary has … (0 comments)

investing: Farmland Forecast: Warren Buffett Likes Farmland Over Gold - 03/02/11 01:48 PM
Farmland Forecast published a new post entitled "Warren Buffett Likes Farmland Over Gold" written by Colvin & Co.
Warren Buffett Likes Farmland Over Gold
Warren Buffett was featured on CNBC's Squawk Box this morning and addressed the investment merits between farmland and gold: Now, for $7 trillion (roughly all the gold in the world), there are roughly a billion of farm- acres of farmland in the United States. They're valued at about $2 1/2 trillion. It's about half the continental United States, this farmland. You could have all the farmland in the United States, you could have about seven ExxonMobiles, and you … (0 comments)

investing: Buying Land: If Cash is King does that make Land Queen? - 12/12/10 06:54 PM
The old adage that cash is king in real estate transactions has probably been more true over the last few years than ever before due to tight credit markets.  If a buyer can put down the cash and close in less than 30 days then a seller is usually willing to make some concessions if they are serious about selling and the concession is almost always in price.
However, I think when it comes to land that maybe the royal marriage of Cash and Land is not the match made in heaven that we think it is as so many of … (0 comments)

investing: Buy Land in the Path of Progress - 11/30/10 01:52 PM
"Find out where the people are going and buy the land before they get there."----Will Rogers
Ever driven by some piece of land and said I should have bought that land twenty years ago?  It happens all the time where we see missed opportunities.  Most investors completely overlook raw and vacant land because they think they cannot make any rent or income off the property and so they move on to apartment buildings and office complexes.  Another reason land investment buyers do not look at land as a potential for their portfolio is because there is no tax depreciation on vacant … (0 comments)

investing: Land Investments over Time - 11/26/10 09:01 PM
SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE
When it comes to real estate investing even though new books and gurus preach about new techniques all the time; truly the basics of real estate investments have not changed. Land never changes. What is on top of the land may change but the dirt is always there. Its article of corporations will not dissolve overnight and disappear. Land will always be there and the amount we have now on earth will stay relatively the same in our lifetimes.

investing: Investing in Land for generations - 11/04/10 11:25 PM
Land investments over time
The news headlines have been a real treat for landowners these past few months.  Tracking news about the land industry has become increasingly easier with social media and sites like LandThink but never before has it been such a weekly treasure trove of news media touting the benefits of investing in land.  Just this week the Omaha World-Herald kicked out this headline "Land's back in the picture" and Delta Farm Press had this one "A billionaire speaks: invest in agriculture" and the list goes on.  Since August I have posted links to more articles on the web … (0 comments)

investing: United States not the only place that Farmland is Solid Investment - 07/12/10 01:11 PM
Tracking the news lately has been for someone who watches the headlines for farmland especially as an investment.  I recently posted about the USA mainstream media outlets touting the benefits of owning farmland but now even more news is showing up indicating it is a solid investment worldwide not just in the United States.  As Mark Twain said they aren't making anymore of it and as Louis Glickman said The Best Investment on Earth is Earth.

investing: Farmland is the new Gold standard of Investments - 07/09/10 11:17 AM
Seems everyone on the business news channels has jumped on the bandwagon of farmland being a great investment.  Landowners have known this for years but as the markets continue to deteriorate and investors have gone looking for safer investments farmland and land investments are being touted again by the main stream media.
Most recently Farmland Forecast reported two more news stories.  One from the Chicago Tribune that profiled organic farms and investments for every day consumers that are looking for more organic food products.  They also reported on the Bloombergstory that reported a hedge fund is seeking out large amounts of quality … (0 comments)

investing: Buy Barbed Wire - Investing in Farmland - 06/23/10 02:36 PM
Some interesting news articles came across on major news channel sites recently talking about the value of investing in land.
CNBC Anthony Fry is telling investors to play it safe and buy physical assets like land. "I don't want to scare anyone but I am considering investing in barbed wire and guns, things are not looking good and rates are heading higher," he said.
The Wall Street Journal Online article titled Cash Crops: Buying Farmland for Income stated that investors can expect about 5% return on land each year along with at least that in appreciation in the land value. Bottom line … (0 comments)
