"Returns from farmland have trounced those of equities." says Ceres Partners co-founder Perry Vieth. Investors Galore.... A George  Soros fund owns over 20% of a farmland company, Adecoagro. Warren Buffett says farmland better than gold. Jim Rogers says buy where it rains and find a farmer that can run the farm right. Presidential Quotes on Real Estate Land Investing
Here at Kansas Land Brokers we truly enjoy good quotes about investing in real estate and especially land investing.  We noticed an interesting trend recently when searching for quotes for our weekly Twitter land quote that many of the investment quotes were by Presidents in the late 1850's and early 1900s.

investment: Summary of FDIC webinar Don't Bet the Farm - Assessing the Boom in Farmland Prices - 03/10/11 11:52 AM
The seminar put on by the FDIC in streaming video webinar format this morning titled Don't Bet the Farm - Assesing the Boom in Farmland Prices was very interesting with a panel of speakers in various fields such as banking, agricultural professors and economists.  The one group that was blatantly not represented was the actual farmer or agricultural producer which was odd. It seemed that a representative from farming should have been there to give input on such an important topic.
The conclusions from most of the speakers were not really anything new or surprising as so much press coverage and media commentary has … (0 comments)

investment: Farmland Forecast: Warren Buffett Likes Farmland Over Gold - 03/02/11 01:48 PM
Farmland Forecast published a new post entitled "Warren Buffett Likes Farmland Over Gold" written by Colvin & Co.
Warren Buffett Likes Farmland Over Gold
Warren Buffett was featured on CNBC's Squawk Box this morning and addressed the investment merits between farmland and gold: Now, for $7 trillion (roughly all the gold in the world), there are roughly a billion of farm- acres of farmland in the United States. They're valued at about $2 1/2 trillion. It's about half the continental United States, this farmland. You could have all the farmland in the United States, you could have about seven ExxonMobiles, and you … (0 comments)

investment: Buying Land: If Cash is King does that make Land Queen? - 12/12/10 06:54 PM
The old adage that cash is king in real estate transactions has probably been more true over the last few years than ever before due to tight credit markets.  If a buyer can put down the cash and close in less than 30 days then a seller is usually willing to make some concessions if they are serious about selling and the concession is almost always in price.
However, I think when it comes to land that maybe the royal marriage of Cash and Land is not the match made in heaven that we think it is as so many of … (0 comments)

investment: Buy Land in the Path of Progress - 11/30/10 01:52 PM
"Find out where the people are going and buy the land before they get there."----Will Rogers
Ever driven by some piece of land and said I should have bought that land twenty years ago?  It happens all the time where we see missed opportunities.  Most investors completely overlook raw and vacant land because they think they cannot make any rent or income off the property and so they move on to apartment buildings and office complexes.  Another reason land investment buyers do not look at land as a potential for their portfolio is because there is no tax depreciation on vacant … (0 comments)

investment: Land Investments over Time - 11/26/10 09:01 PM
SOME THINGS NEVER CHANGE
When it comes to real estate investing even though new books and gurus preach about new techniques all the time; truly the basics of real estate investments have not changed. Land never changes. What is on top of the land may change but the dirt is always there. Its article of corporations will not dissolve overnight and disappear. Land will always be there and the amount we have now on earth will stay relatively the same in our lifetimes.
ONE WORD
After the horrific news cycle over the last year about real estate people are probably wondering … (0 comments)

investment: Is Land better than Stocks as an Investment? - 08/16/10 12:18 AM
There are many articles about land vs. stocks and what is better.  Maybe instead of comparing them why not take a look at just adding land to your investment portfolio.  With that in mind it is easier to do your own research.
Land is easier to find information because most of the due diligence you need to do can be done using public tax records.  If you try to find out the info or value of a public trading company to determine the true value of the stock that can be nearly impossible but with land you can usually have a … (0 comments)

investment: Kansas – One of Top 10 states for Farms and Cropland - 02/13/10 07:07 PM
The Progressive Farmer recently reported Kansas number 3 on its list of the best places to own farmland.  The Central Plains were very well represented with Nebraska hitting number one.  The article also pointed out that Kansas land at $1050 an acre is a bargain.  The article also profiled Haskell County Kansas where beef feedlots and even cotton are viable crops for farmers.  One of the more interesting quotes from the article talked about the high prices of some farmland in the last few years and how that might not always be viable due to profitability.  However, they pointed out that … (0 comments)

investment: Now is the time to Buy Land - 06/15/09 04:36 PM
Have you been dreaming of owning a piece of land out in the country, or maybe just a few acres to have a big garden.  Buying land is much easier than you think and right now is the perfect time to buy.  Market pressure on sellers is making for some great advantages for buyers looking to find land.  Rural land prices will go up again soon as many baby boomers begin to retire to small towns and rural area and purchase sites for their future retirement homes.
Land as a long term investment is also another good reason to buy land … (0 comments)
