The Kansas Hay Market Report was released today (early due to holidays) by the USDA and Kansas Department of Agriculture.  SUMMARY:
Hay trade moderate to active. Demand very strong for dairy, stock cow andgrinding alfalfa, moderate to strong for alfalfa pellets and grass hay. Most ofthe State is receiving rain at this writing. The far Western counties aregetting blowing snow, which is forecast to move across Kansas with blizzardconditions at times. Everyone is busy preparing for the storm and taking care oflivestock. Hay use and bedding will increase accordingly.

Polansky, State Executive Director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) in Kansas announced that emergency haying of Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) acreage has been approved for Butler, Chase, Cowley, Hamilton, Lyon and Marion counties.Counties previously approved for CRP emergency haying include: Barber, Barton, Clark, Comanche, Edwards, Elk, Ellsworth Finney, Ford, Grant, Gray, , Greenwood Harper, Harvey, Haskell, Hodgeman, Kearny, Kingman, Kiowa, Lane, McPherson, Meade, Morton, Ness, Pawnee, Pratt, Reno, Rice, Scott, Sedgwick, Seward, Stafford, Stanton, Stevens, Sumner, Trego, Wichita, Wilson and Woodson Counties. Hay trade moderate. Demand very strong for dairy and grinding alfalfa, moderate to strong for stock cow hay, alfalfa pellets and grass hay. livestock: EPA issues compliance violations to 2 Kansas cattle feedlots - 05/18/11 10:33 AM
EPA Region 7 announced administrative compliance orders have been issued to seven concentrated animal feeding operations (CAFOs) and two of those feedlots are in Kansas.
The operations are directing to correct violations of the federal Clean Water Act.
They have been warned regarding waste discharge and the compliance orders were the first step in a potential series of regulatory actions. If the feedlots fail to comply, civil penalties could follow. 
The two Kansas feedlots are KM Feeders in Lyons, KS and McPherson County Feeders in Marquette, KS.
The EPA said they both do not have enough storage capacity in its waste lagoons.

In 2009 the total fertilizer sold in Kansas was 1,902,649 tons. 
The annual average precipitation for Kansas for 2009 was 32.32 inches of water.
The average temperature in Kansas for 2009 was 53.2 degrees fahrenheit.
The total acres harvested in Kansas was 21,875,800 acres (total of all crops).

The All Crops Index in February, at 267 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 28 points from January and up 113 points from 2010. 
Wheat : prices in mid-February, at $8.50 per bushel, are up $1.41 from January and $4.18 above last February.
Corn: prices in mid-February, at $6.10 per bushel, are up 71 cents from January and $2.71 above last February.

Kansas Agricultural Prices report for the month of February 2011
The All Crops Index in January, at 254 percent of the 1990-92 base, is up 23 points from December and up 92 points from 2010.
Wheat prices in mid-January, at $7.55 per bushel, are up 64 cents from December and $2.95 above last January.
Corn prices in mid-January, at $5.75 per bushel, are up 57 cents from December and $2.16 above last January.

livestock: Farmland Values in Kansas - 02/28/10 10:14 PM
The Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City released data showing that farmland values strengthened at the end of 2009.  Most types of property were up in value however ranchland was down which includes pasture and livestock grass here in Kansas.  Average values for Kansas were $1331 an acre for non-irrigated cropland and $1921 for irrigated cropland but only $750 an acre for pasture. 
The percent annual increase for Kansas on non-irrigated was 3.1% and irrigated 2% but again ranch or pasture land was down at -7.3%.  These were annual numbers and the most recent data from third quarter 2009 was more … (0 comments)
