pasture: Farmland Values: Is the Sky the Limit? - 10/19/11 03:00 PM
Farmland seems pretty boring on the surface especially if you drive across Kansas. You will instantly know why we are known as the Flyover State if you have ever driven I-70 across the state. But things have not been so boring in Iowa where farmland values have given way to huge prices in corn country this month. Record prices of over $16,000 per acre this week. In the Commercial Connections recent newsletter from the National Association of Realtors Commercial Real Estate division, Edmond Massie makes a great observation about land that hits this high price point issue perfectly. “Every product consumed

pasture: Kansas Farmland, Cropland, and Pasture Values still gaining - 09/15/11 06:59 PM
The pace of slowed somewhat but the farmland values in Kansas are still going higher according to Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City survey. The fed says that severe drought and higher input costs have slowed the land values and increase were moderate for the second quarter compared to previous values. Values are still higher than last year. Most agree that the demand will remain and keep prices higher but the tight supply of land will remain which will keep the land values at same range. Looking through all the previous numbers back to 2006 they had not changed from year to year in the reports but for some reason 2010 data changed in the 2011 report. Below is two charts showing the differences in the numbers that were listed in the 2010 report vs. how they are listed in the 2011 report.
