weather: Kansas Farm Service Agency help available if affected by tornadoes - 05/10/12 08:33 AM
USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Kansas announced that assistance is available for Kansas farmers that were affected by tornadoes and high winds in Edwards, Ellsworth, Rice and Stafford counties. The storms occurred on April 14 and 15, 2012. . Cost-share assistance for farmers and ranchers to rehabilitate farmland damaged by natural disasters is available. The damage must be of such magnitude that it would be too costly for the producer to rehabilitate without Federal assistance. Practices approved in these counties include: removing debris from farmland; grading, shaping, and re-leveling measures; restoring permanent fences; restoring conservation structures or other installations; and

The Kansas Hay Market Report was released today (early due to holidays) by the USDA and Kansas Department of Agriculture. SUMMARY: Hay trade moderate to active. Demand very strong for dairy, stock cow andgrinding alfalfa, moderate to strong for alfalfa pellets and grass hay. Most ofthe State is receiving rain at this writing. The far Western counties aregetting blowing snow, which is forecast to move across Kansas with blizzardconditions at times. Everyone is busy preparing for the storm and taking care oflivestock. GOD BLESS KANSAS! Ad Astra Per Aspera To the Stars through Difficulties. A tornado ripped through Reading, Kansas over the weekend along with damage in several other areas. The Kansas Department of Agriculture released the Kansas Crop Progress and Condition Report. Dry conditions continued in Kansas with high winds and still a lack of moisture in many sections of the state. The dry and windy conditions have caused burn bans to be issued in some counties. A fire in Haskell County Kansas earlier this week caused a small rural town to be evacuated. Some rain hit Eastern parts of the state but it was short lived and came with hail and strong winds. The winter wheat is 22% jointed and winterkill has been 15% or less. Corn planting is just starting

Greetings from the Kansas Arctic! After an unusually wet year 2009 Kansas ended the year with various snow storms over the holidays across the state. Temperatures have been unusually low as well as we are writing this the temperature is subzero and almost negative 20 with the wind chill. Over the last week there has been strong winds that have caused high drifts. All the while during this we have traveled to various towns and counties and we have been impressed with the conditions of the roads nearly everywhere. We want to send out a huge thank you to all of
