Valerie has inspired me to do some baking :) - 06/17/08 10:10 PM
Valerie has posted some tasty looking recipes and I was inspired to do some baking myself.  I remembered a cake recipe and thought I would share it with y'all.  I've had this recipe for a very long time, but I don't make it that often.   I have no idea why that is, because it is such an EASY recipe!   It couldn't be any easier, really.     It's called a Dump Cake - and here is how to make it.
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease the bottom of a 9 x 13 pan
DUMP in 20 oz Crushed Pineapple.

only in Aiken..... - 06/17/08 07:08 PM
To give y'all a feel for my little city.  I'm sitting in my living room and I hear the clip-clop of horses hooves on the pavement.  Yes, I knew it would be a horse-drawn carriage, but I still rush to the window every time I hear them.  Well, it was the cutest thing.  It was a carriage - a small one, the lady driver and her two pups along for the ride :)  .....and..... there was a younger boy hitching a ride on the back of the carriage, and his horse was walking along behind them (on a lead, of … (3 comments)

first impressions - 06/15/08 11:28 AM
Homeowners - you know the importance of a good first impression!   You are out in the yard every weekend, weeding the garden, mowing the lawn, trimming the bushes/trees/shrubs.  You have put a fresh coat of paint on the fence and mailbox, cleaned up the oil stains in the driveway....   You are doing a great job!!  Looking from the street - your house has great curb appeal.

Sometimes we see something so many times everyday that we don't really 'see' it anymore.   Have you looked at the front door lately? I mean really looked at it?  Does it need a fresh coat … (7 comments)

Free? Did someone say Free?? !!! - 06/14/08 04:23 PM
Yes - FREE!! Free concerts all summer long.  What a great little town I live in.  Aiken, South Carolina.

We are so blessed to have this beautiful public garden in town.  Originally part of The Iselin family estate, Hopelands Gardens was given to the City of Aiken, and opened as a public garden in 1959.
Enter the gardens and you get the feeling that you are in a different world - possibly even stepping back into time. Giant old trees tower over the main entrance path provide shade on a summers day.  Listen to the birds.  Smell the flowers.  Hear the … (5 comments)

let sleeping dogs lie - 06/14/08 03:55 PM
An older, tired-looking dog wandered into my yard; I could tell from his collar and well-fed belly that he had a home and was well taken care of. He calmly came over to me, I gave him a few pats on his head; he then followed me into my house, slowly walked down the hall, curled up in the corner and fell asleep.

An hour later, he went to the door, and I let him out. The next day he was back, greeted me in my yard, walked inside and resumed his spot in the hall and again slept … (10 comments)

Alphabet Soup....What do all those letters mean, anyway. Part II - 06/12/08 09:06 PM
Ok, so here we are - ready to continue!    It was rather late the other night when I was finally able to enter my post.  (guess that is when some of the technical difficulties started)
Where we left off.   I was giving some insight into the alphabet soup that follows some of our names.   Yes, we Realtors know they are designations - we know they require extra education and related sales experience in some cases.  But, the general public might not realize.
In Part I we covered:
The Big R (Realtor)    ,   MLS (Multiple Listing Service),
ALC (Accredited Land Consultant)

How Could You? - 06/12/08 03:54 PM
When I was a puppy, I entertained you with my antics and made you laugh. You called me your child, and despite a number of chewed shoes and a couple of murdered throw pillows, I became your best friend. Whenever I was "bad," you'd shake your finger at me and ask "How could you?"--but then you'd relent and roll me over for a belly rub. My housebreaking took a little longer than expected, because you were terribly busy, but we worked on that together. I remember those nights of nuzzling you in bed and listening to your confidences and secret dreams, … (3 comments)

Some tips for buyers....... help to get your offer accepted - 06/10/08 06:41 PM
You've found the right home - now it's time to make your offer.
When you make an offer, the seller has a few options.
They can:
* Accept it!
* Reject it outright if the offer does not meet the specifications in the listing
* Counter it with different price & terms

If there is strong demand for properties, a seller may not even make a counter offer, but accept one of several offers (usually the one with the highest price, and the most qualified buyer)

Here are a few tips that might help to get … (7 comments)

Alphabet soup....what do all those letters mean, anyway. - 06/10/08 12:04 AM
Wow! She sure has alot of letters after her name.....what do they all mean?  I've been asked this more than once, and was asked tonight, which is what prompted this blog.
As Realtors, we know the hard work (and huge expense for some of the courses/memberships) it takes to earn a designation.  But the majority of the 'non-Realtor' public haven't a clue.  to some, it is just a bunch of letters.  Alphabet soup.  If we don't fill them in, they will never know.   I want to help the general public understand those letters :)
This should help in understanding the alphabet … (4 comments)

So many of you have your playlists on your profile, I had never even thought of putting mine up here on A/R. I've got my myspace page rocking out, though! So, I tried to upload my player to my profile...but it won't keep? - any suggestions from anyone?? I thought I would see if I could get it to post here in this blog, and go from there. It has  happened several times, you've read it in the newspaper - you've seen it on the news - you've heard stories at the watercooler.  Yes, it happens all the time.   Fire breaks out in a home - thanks to an unattended candle.   It happened to a house an agent in our office had listed.   Another agent showed up for her scheduled appointment ---when she opened the front door and saw smoke and flames she immediately called 9-1-1.   The house was not a total loss, thank goodness.   And the cause of the fire - an unattended candle.    The homeowner wanted the … (4 comments)

LITTLE JOHNNY WANTS TO SETTLE DOWN
Little Johnny and Little Lisa are only 10 years old, but they know that they are in love. One day they decide that they want to get married, so Johnny goes to Lisa's father to ask for his blessing. Johnny  bravely walks up to him and says "Mr. Jones, me and Lisa are in love and I  want to ask you for your blessing."Thinking that this was the cutest thing, Mr. Jones replies, "Well  Johnny, you're only 10. Where will you two live?"Without even taking a moment to think about it, Johnny replies "In  Lisa's … (1 comments)

Summer is not officially here, but it sure has felt like it the past few days here in The South.  Hot and Humid, ugh.  Thank goodness my landlord is installing a ceiling fan as I type!  I was actually hoping he was here to install my screen door.  Wayyy back in January I asked him about a screen door.  He said he would get one, no problem (I would have purchased it, if he would install it!) Since it was January - I said that if I had it by March it would be great.   Well, at least I'm getting a much needed ceiling fan in my bedroom - I'll … (4 comments)
