Meet my nephew Jay, and his bowling teammates! 6 years old and he is well on his way to pro status! The Three Musketeers. When asked how they came up with their team name, Jay had this to say "Someone just wrote it on the paper, probably mommy. Me and Jacob liked it, but Austin didn't."

If you are looking for a dog - please consider adopting a rescue dog. Look for a place in your county. Danny & Ron run a rescue, and recently adopted out their 1000th dog :) MOST OF THESE DOGS (800) WERE RESCUED FROM HURRICANE KATRINA. Their operation is TOTALLY NON-PROFIT - they just don't want to see any more dogs be put down. They go and rescue these pups from the mills and just want to find good homes for them. The 20th Annual St. Mary's Chocolate Festivalwas today and it was a blast : ) I hope you got a chance to stop by. So much to see and do - The frozen casserole sale was a complete success and completely sold out in the first hour! Silly me - I headed straight for the chocolate...and by the time I got to the casseroles they were all gone : ( Silent auction- there were so many cool items on which to bid. Did you know that Aiken SC is a City of Character? (and some charactors too, lol) j/k. "OUR CITY WILL BE JUDGED BY THE CHARACTER OF OUR CITIZENS" Anyway - back in 1999 a resolution was passed by the Aiken City Council to support a 'Community of Charactor' initiative in Aiken - THE FIRST IN SOUTH CAROLINA!! We really are trend setters here in this little horse town :)

Did you get a chance to come on out for the 'Ford Trucks Equestrian Balloon Festival'? It was alot of fun. This was the first time I have seen hot air balloons up close and in person - they are absolutely beautiful :) Saturday night there was a balloon glow - it was so cool. I hope you were able to come out to see it. Sunday morning the gates opened one last time for a mass ascension of the balloons - filling the skies over Aiken with a beautiful sight -/ Here are some pictures from the glow on Saturday night:

Do you know? I know!! I know!! This is a great little piece of trivia for EVERYONE!! There are alot of sports in the world using very large playing fields. A baseball field is pretty big. What about Soccer -Field Hockey - Rugby??? What about Lacrosse?............ (A Lacrosse field is 110' long by 60' wide) By now you are thinking - come on, Kara - we know it is a football field! I was out and about quite early this morning. I really couldn't believe what I was seeing come up on me in my rear view mirror. Yes, it was early - and ok - I was a little tired....but I knew I was awake....and this just seemed like I should be dreaming. As most of you know, my camera is never far. I was reading some blogs this morning....and saw one that my friend/associate posted for a pork chop recipe. Check out Gene's Blog! I've got another great crock-pot pork chop recipe! Layer in the crock pot - boneless center cut pork chops - sliced potatoes - cheddar cheese. Then pour a can of Cream of Celery Soup over it. It may not sound that great....but believe me it is really good! I call this one: Scalloped Pork Chops! Let me know if you try it :)

I just heard on the news that we had a record setting low temperature this morning. 54 degrees. It beat the previous coldest July 2nd - which was 59 degrees back in 1988 and 1919. I was just saying to my mom tonight how perfect the weather has been! I have been able to open up the windows and save on the a/c. It has been just perfect :) I hope it lasts for awhile, the evenings have been great! Oh, this mornings low temp also broke the previous monthly record low temp for July! ...and what a night it was! Downtown Aiken is the best :) We had a beach blast last night - and after hours it ended with a beach party on our party street! Yes, we have a 'party' street here in Aiken :) All of our 'block parties', festivals, etc..are held right downtown on Newberry Street. A great location! And once the ends are blocked off - it is party time!! We even had a 'beach' on the street. Yes - TOES IN THE SAND!! I luv it :) While the sun was still shining, the kids were playing in the sand....but … (5 comments)

I noticed this sign as I was headed to the office this morning. I bet your town doesn't post these! Or do they?? We even have street lights with the 'push here for green' button up high enough so it can be reached from horseback! Pretty cool, huh. Only in Aiken! The place I call home.

To give y'all a feel for my little city. I'm sitting in my living room and I hear the clip-clop of horses hooves on the pavement. Yes, I knew it would be a horse-drawn carriage, but I still rush to the window every time I hear them. Well, it was the cutest thing.
