For those of you keeping an eye on my garden..... I have strawberry!! Yes, singular, haha -it's the first one to grow- hopefully soon to be plural, since I see many many flowers and buds! My plans for this little berry are to enjoy it this evening, sliced on top of my salad...with lettuce and carrots from my garden :) If you love to grow things, Aiken is perfect!

My garden is planted, yaay! Here's what I've got going this year: green beans (of course!! - nothing better than fresh picked!!), roma tomatoes, eggplant, watermelon, green onions, red onions, lettuce, strawberries, parsley, basil, oregano and carrots!
Speaking of carrots...here's one of my containers - complete with baby bunny, lol. For me, container gardening is the way to go - give it a try!

New SCDOT Commissioner: Local Aiken County resident Chad Ingram was elected last week to serve a s the SCDOT Commissioner for the Second Congressional District. It has been more than two decades since an Aiken County resident served on the SCDOT Commission.
Congrats to Mr. Ingram, we're sure he will represent our district superbly!

First up: Bloodies & Bagels - (4th annual!) Hosted by the Aiken Land Conservancy, Held at the Aiken Co Historical Museum Newberry/South Boundary . 9am -11am.
Second on the list: After Bloodies and Bagels, continue on into Hitchcock Woods for the annual Blessing of the Hounds. Painting the town teal...for Ovarian Cancer Awareness.
That's right - our teal is showing in downtown Aiken.
September is Ovarian Cancer Awareness month - and we want everyone to be aware. Our women need our support in every way. These are mothers, daughters, sisters, grandmothers, nieces, granddaughters, cousins, aunts, neighbors and friends... who are battling ovarian cancer - not to mention all the other people (men, women & children) in the world battling other forms of the terrible disease.
I live in a pretty cool town! Downtown Aiken, SC - we are painting the town teal for Ovarian cancer awareness. If

The City of Aiken manages all of the parks, gardens and natural areas within its boundary lines..... from Hopelands Gardens to the Carolina Bay to the park/playground behind the library!! The library park/playground is one of my favorites - and it was just revamped to be accessible by ALL children.

Maybe you were there -maybe not - but be sure to add it to your calendar for next year! What am I talking about - why Aiken Prep Fest of course! Our own Jesse Colin Young (of the Youngbloods) is one of the founders, and this year one of my friends won the 'sing out contest' and got the opportunity to sing onstage with Mr. Young himself!

Free concerts every Monday in the Summer at Hopelands Gardens.
A picnic supper, a blanket, family and friends make for a perfect Monday evening during the months of May through August as local and regional artists perform at the Roland H. Windham Performing Arts Stage. Concerts begin at 7pm unless noties. ADMISSION IS FREE!!!! Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

Night of 1000 Lights is truly ONE of THE PRETTIEST evenings in Downtown Aiken, SC.
