Another beautiful sunny day here in Aiken, SC. Ida has blown thru and we are back to clear blue sunny skies! The Park Place Cottages are coming along nicely --- although it has been awhile since I've been inside---- I am due for another tour!
Here is a pic I just took this morning :) Isn't it a beautiful building! I absolutely LOVE everything about it! The bricks - the details - the windows - the balconies - the doors - AND ESPECIALLY THE LOCATION!! Well - from the outside it doesn't look like much is happening - but believe me, on the inside the joint is jumping! We have had plumbers - electricians - hvac techs - fire protection services....etc - all doing there thing! I even saw the sheet rock guy there with his measuring tool!! Woo hoo - that means that sheet rock is coming soon :)
Soooo - - even though it appears from the outside that things are at a stand still - they are not. It's amazing what is going on behind those closed doors, lol.

It's been a slow week next door - not much to report.
The plumbers arrived and put their piping in place. (sewer / water and vent piping)
Yohe Plumbing is doing the job. (Stan - JD and Jason)
Jason (or was it JD?) tells me that they won't be back now until the framing is complete -- then they will come back and extend the piping all the way up!
Paul and his crew are still working, too. Right now they are compacting the dirt around the piping - then they will add about 4 inches … (3 comments)

Not much to report on Park Place - they are just finishing up the forms etc...... should be pouring the support walls and slab soon. I'll be away from the office for the next couple of days - I hope I don't miss anything!
Isn't it amazing how many people are involved in the process of new construction - and how even just one building project helps to boost the economy.
In this case so far there has been a demolition crew, engineers, sample taker, pest control, utility marker guy, foundation company,ummmm - I'm sure I missed a few..... and more to come. Think … (3 comments)

It has been quiet next door since they poured the footers - until yesterday afternoon! I had the pleasure of meeting Tim Wright and Rav (didn't catch his last name) today at the Park Place site next door. They are with CSRA Testing And Engineering Co., out of Augusta, Georgia - and can be reached at: 706.733.6960 if you are in need of their services. The reason for their visit to the job site was to test the ground below the footers. To be exact - they were testing the load bearing values below the footers. The forms for the footers were all set up and ready to go by yesterday afternoon. I would have lost the bet if Paul had shook my hand, lol. I didn't think they would have it all done in time for this morning, lol.
Just one more thing before the concrete can be poured - and that is the termite treatment.
Here is the guy from Aiken Pest Control doing his thing! (they spray the ground prior to the concrete being poured)

Mighty chilly here in Aiken this morning - but not too cold for Paul and Juan to be 'shooting the corners' at the construction site next door.
What they were doing was marking the corners of the building...and all the load bearing walls locations ----- so they can get on with the next step of pouring the footers. (with CONCRETE.....not cement! - there is a difference, and I got quite an education on that this morning!)
I have mixed concrete in the past. It takes cement (and other aggragate...like sand and stones) and of course the bonding agent … (2 comments)

It has been pretty quiet next door, until I saw some action this morning! It was Mark - and he was marking the underground utilities - yaaay.....this means we are moving forward :)
Mark has been doing this for about 12 years and says that business is good. He gave me the key to his markings, haha - here you go:
Red = Electric
Blue = Water
Yellow = Gas
Orange = Communications (phone/cable...)

When we last left Park Ave --- the deomolition had been completed - and all that was left was an empty lot.
I pulled up to the office this morning and saw an interesting looking rig in the lot. Of course I had to go over and introduce myself and get nosey, lol.

The old antique store on Park Avenue is being demolished. Well, it is already leveled - they started tearing it down a couple weeks ago. Now they are working on the footers and the slab. I've been watching them everyday! Lucky for me they are working right next door to our office :)
Well, the other morning Bob let me 'work' the excavater - it was the coolest! Soooo- I'm thinking, if you can't sell them, you might as well tear them down, haha. Just kidding!
