Just Another Hawley REALTOR Rambling...

I was visiting a local news website to see what was going on in my hometown of Hawley (even though I now reside in Paupack, PA...) when I came across this tidbit worth sharing.

The New Covenant Fellowship Church on Columbus Ave. is organizing an Operation Christmas Child drive - hoping to gather 100 plastic shoe boxes (with lids) in hopes of sharing love and perhaps bring some happiness to boys and girls who have been victims of disaster.

Shoe boxes can contain school supplies, toys, hygenic supplies, gloves, caps, mittens, puzzles, stuffed animals, dolls, cars, planes, etc. No perishable food or war related toys will be accepted. It would be nice if donors could also include $7 per box to help defray the shipping cost. Items can be for ages 2-14. The church has asked for donors to indicate "Boy" or "Girl" on the outside of the box.

I remember doing this with my kids a couple of years ago - we had a great deal of fun going to the store together and picking out toys and other items to put in the box. I had to tell them to stop trying to find so much stuff, the shoe box is only so big! This can be a great way for parents and grandparents to teach their children the joy of giving to people who need.

Drop off your donations at The Alpine on Route 6 in Honesdale, or at Woodloch Pines, about 10 miles east of Hawley, or contact the church at (570) 226-2507 to make arrangements.

Another opportunity to help out a special cause is coing on this week at the Greene Dreher Sterling Fair in Newfoundland, PA. Headed up by REALTOR and local business man Joe Paladino, the Special Olympics booth will be selling raffle tickets to raise money for the PA Special Olympics. See my previous blog about the GDS Fair and my involvement in this terrific fundraiser. I'm going to be manning the booth tonight (Thursday) from 5 to 10pm, so stop on down and say hi if you're there! The GDS Fair is in its 90th season and is still only $5 to get in.
