This is really cool - I am so excited that our lovely little town is going to have its own college! Lackawanna College is opening its Hawley Campus in what most people remember as the Castle Building - but before it was Castle Antiques it had the illustrious name of Sherman Underwear Factory....even earlier, it was the Hawley Silk Mill. Since "Historic Hawley Silk Mill" has a much better ring to it than Sherman's Underwear Factory, that is what the complex is now known as. Lackawanna College is only using a portion of the Silk Mill. Is Lake Wallenpaupack the largest man made lake in PA? In a word, no, even though you may see it stated as such on local Wallenpaupack real estate websites. Some sites say it's the 2nd largest man made lake in PA, but it's not quite that either. Lake Wallenpaupack is the 3rd largest man made lake in PA...unless you disqualify the largest lake due to the fact that part of it is shared by Ohio. One of the area's sometimes overlooked developments / homeowner communities is Paupackan Lake Estates, in Hawley / Lakeville, PA (Wayne County.) It is not very big, and does not offer a ton of amenities like The Hideout in Lake Ariel or Wallenpaupack Lake Estates, also in Lake Ariel. It does offer one of the cleanest lakes in Northeast PA - and Paupackan Lake has a reputation of being an excellent lake for fishing. This is the place to come for peace and quiet. Tonight, I took a break from real estate, and my family & I went to visit our friends who have a lake front cabin on Lake Wallenpaupack, in Sunny Point. We do this every July when they come up from Lancaster to spend time at "The Cabin." Often, this is the only time we see them. Lake Wallenpaupack is the hub of tourism and recreation for Wayne and Pike County in the Poconos of Northeast Pennsylvania. Lake Wallenpaupack was created by PPL in 1926 as a hydroelectric power project.
