In A Buyer's Market... Which is the Better Deal ? Buying a resale, or buying New ? - 10/31/07 07:09 PM
There is NO DOUBT, in the local DFW market area, that it’s a Buyer’s Market out there ! And… interest rates are “softening.” So… which is the better deal in today’s “buyer’s market ?” Buying a resale, or buying a New Home From a Builder ?
What does a local Fort Worth buyer look for when shopping for a home in a ‘buyer’s market?” Obviously, this is the time to find a good “bargain.” I have sold many, many new homes in the Fort Worth/Dallas market over the past years, and I have also sold many “re-sale” homes. I have also worked for … (23 comments)

Dallas Mavericks Begin New Season... - 10/31/07 06:10 PM
The Dallas Mavericks Begin New Season Tonight against LeBron James and the Cavaliers.
Last year the Dallas Mavericks ended their year on a sour note, losing to the Don Nelson-led Golden State Warriors. The Mavs were seeded First in the Western Conference, and Golden State just squeezed into the playoffs in the Eighth seed. The Mavs had hoped to go on and win the NBA Title, but things did not work out the way they planned, and that’s putting it mildly.
The series against the Warriors was won and lost on “match-ups.” The Mavericks may have had the better team… but Golden State … (16 comments)

It's Halloween... Watch Out For The Trick-of-Treaters, please... - 10/28/07 05:35 PM
Over the Next Few Days, Many of Our Children will be wearing all of their wonderfully decorative and imaginative Halloween Outfits.  There will be parties, both at school, and at their friend's homes.
Additionally, many of our kids will be outside... walking door-to-door ringing doorbells and yelling Trick-Or-Treat.  Although my own daughter is now thirty-five years old, and lives about sixty miles away, I cannot help but remember all the cute costumes and outfits that we made up for her to wear for those fun evenings.

It will be very dark outside while they are having their Halloween fun.  They will also … (23 comments)

Fort Worth/Dallas - Something To Cheer About ! - 10/26/07 05:40 PM
Fort Worth/Dallas... Get Ready To Cheer !
A recent CNN Money.com survey says the Real Estate Market in Fort Worth and Dallas is primed to take a Very Positive Bounce starting in Early 2008.
Median sales prices for single-family homes in Fort Worth/Dallas area are projected to rise at an Annual Growth Rate (AGR) of 6.4 per cent, continues the CNNMoney.com survey.   While other areas of the country suffer from falling home values, the gradual and sensible growth rate experienced over the last twenty years in the Fort Worth/Dallas area has never contributed to the "values bubble" which so many other areas of the … (22 comments)

My First Thought Was... Why Am I Getting All This Hate Mail ??? - 10/26/07 01:32 AM
I was just making a comment on another post about something that happened to me years ago.  As I finished it, a friend suggested to make it a post... all by itself.  So that's what I'm going to do.
Yes, it was many years ago... perhaps 1996.  I had just got my first ancient computer.  It might have been a 286, I think.  Very little memory, but it worked !   Now that I could get online, the only thing I had ever really heard about, was America Online... AOL.  So, right away... I joined AOL.
I was just getting acquainted with the entire email system... when the first emails … (38 comments)

Moving During The School Year... Why It's a Good Thing ! - 10/24/07 08:48 PM
Often times when we Realtors suggest to a buyer that moving before the end of the year makes great sense "tax-wise"... we often hear... "Oh, we could NEVER do that to the kids.  We want to wait until the end of the school year.  If we "uprooted the kids"... well... it would just be much too hard on them.
Well... here are some thoughts on that... from a former Junior High School teacher.  Regardless of when parents decide to move, very often the kids will not be pleased.  They will talk all about leaving their friends behind, about how miserable they … (26 comments)

A Unique Way to Practice Blogging... Try Being A Journal-ist... - 10/17/07 10:56 PM
Some people who write extensively in "outside blogs" have said that all they are really doing... is "telling stories."  I have also heard it said... that if you have ever written in your own "personal journal..." that you were simply "telling a story..." but it was "your own story."
Have you ever kept a journal ?  If so, how long ago ?  How long did you write in it on an ongoing basis ?  Do you still write in your journal at the present ?  What is a person called who writes in a journal ?  Just think for a second.  A person … (29 comments)

The Lady's Not Home Today... - 10/16/07 07:44 PM
A Long Time Ago I Remembered Hearing a Song by Melissa Manchester called "The Lady's Not Home Today."  It was about a woman who did everything for others... so much so that she rarely had time for herself.  Sometimes she took care of people who were sick and had no relatives.  Sometimes she brought meals to the "caregivers" who were themelves taking care of parents, or others in need.
Although she worked a full time job, every other weekend she could be found working at the battered women's and children's shelter... volunteering to take care of the children there, and teach work skills to their mothers so … (18 comments)

If You Are Thinking of Down-Sizing... You Really Need To See This Home.  Although this charming home is just slightly over 1600 sq ft, if you were entertaining in the Gathering Room... the combination kitchen, family room and breakfast nook... you would probably think the total square footage was much larger than that.  At $142,990... it is "priced right."
One of the problems often encountered when moving from a larger home with many amenities to a smaller one that's easier to take care of... is that yes, the home is smaller than what you're moving out of... but you still want all the … (10 comments)

Chaos and Love... - 10/15/07 12:52 AM
Those of us who have lived lives of chaos in the past must keep on guard when our lives become happy again.  When such a large part of our past has been chaotic, there is some hidden part inside our psyche that recognizes that things are "peaceful," and doesn't quite know what to do with it or how to act.
Being that living a peaceful life in the midst of caring people when you're not used to it can seem "foreign..." when we've lived in chaos in the past... sometimes we tend to feel like something's wrong because everything isn't wrong.  Does … (16 comments)

Here Is Your Chance !  But... there IS a catch.  You can't wait forever.  Even as we speak... construction crews are busy.  Neither Rain, Now Snow, Nor Sleet, Nor Dark Of Night...  Ooops... the US Postal Service is already using that.  But... as you can see... it won't be long... until this gorgeous home...

I Love Tomatoes... - 10/07/07 05:31 PM
Many years ago when my parents bought their first home... I was allowed to plant a "vegetable" garden.  Now, I was by no means your run-of-the-mill gardener.  I had my very own "special system."  You see, I was eleven years old at the time.
My Mother... Marian... my Mom... wanted to give me a special treat that day.  I must have been extra good.  Perhaps I did my homework.  Mebbe I cleaned up my room.  Perhaps I was actually nice to my brother that day.  (I used to yell at him like crazy when I caught him trying on my clothes... but that … (10 comments)

Yes... Room Service... Could You Send Up a Bottle of Chenin Blanc, please... - 10/07/07 03:15 AM
OK... we're going to set the time frame first, here...
I think it was perhaps 1995.  I had been working my little real estate fingers to the bone in Fort Worth, Texas.  I very much needed to take some time off.  I searched far and wide for a good place to spend the weekend... and finally saw an article about a show that was being put on in Austin, Texas.  Right now, I cannot remember the name of it.  Not Hairspray, not Girl Groups... ahhhh... there it is... it was called "Big Hair !"
It was billed as a "celebration" of the Girl Groups of the Sixties.  … (17 comments)

Using the "Myers-Briggs" to Improve Communication... (Part ONE) - 10/04/07 09:33 PM
What would it be like... if we could better understand each other... and really know where the other... was "coming from ?"
Years ago, Katherine Myers and Elizabeth Myers-Briggs... a mother-daughter team of Psychologists... developed a method of better understanding both ourselves, and others, by means of what they called... "Psychological Type Theory."
Taking the Myers-Briggs... or the MBTI as it was called... gave a person a description of their personality "type"... which could be extremely valuable in helping facilitate communicating with other people.  Various "types" can perceive a certain thing in a great variety of ways... thus making communication.
The Myers-Briggs assists in communication … (21 comments)

Fort Worth/Dallas Projects a 6.4 % Growth Rate... - 10/02/07 06:25 PM
According to a recent CNN/Money Magazine survey... the Fort Worth/Dallas Median Sales Price for area single-family homes is Projected to Rise at a Growth Rate of 6.4 Percent.
One of the things that is fueling this increase is the growth in the Fort Worth/Dallas jobs market.  The amount of available jobs continues to grow at about twice the national average, with many more families relocating to the North Texas area.  People go where the jobs are.  And that means... Fort Worth/Dallas !
Both Fort Worth and Dallas, and many of the surrounding suburbs in the Metroplex are known nationwide for their advanced health-care facilities.  … (4 comments)

Fort Worth Home Prices Rise... While Prices Drop in the Nations's "Hot Spots" - 10/02/07 04:13 PM
I recently attended a seminar in Northern Virginia.  During the late 80's and early 90's, I lived in Alexandria, Virginia and Columbia, Maryland for about six years total.  During that time, I was an on-site New Home Salesperson with three DC Area home builders.
The first of those builders I worked for was Scarborough Homes, who shortly after I joined them, changed their name to Winchester Homes.  I was with them for perhaps two years.
The first neighborhood that Winchester assigned me to was Crofton Commons.  It was a new Townhouse Community just off I-66... about five miles down Rt 29, just … (6 comments)

It's Fireplace Time Tonight... ! - 10/01/07 05:36 PM
It's Fireplace Time Tonight... !
It has been a long summer.  Hot days, warm nights, pouring rain for days at a time, lakes at first several feet below normal, then lakes ten feet above flood stage.  Many, many people I know... are so ready for fall.
I don't think I used my fireplace even once last winter.  Not that it wasn't cold enough.  The timing just wasn't right... or I just wasn't in a fireplace-kind-of mood.  Either way... no fires in the fireplace.

For some reason... this winter... even this fall... this beautiful Autumn... is already upon us.  Somehow I can sense it.  … (19 comments)

How to Turn a Non-Buyer... Into A Buyer ! - 10/01/07 04:38 PM
With the Financial and Mortgage Industries "tightening up" their loan requirements... an extra boost is often needed for buyers to be able to qualify for the home they want to purchase.  Here are a few suggestions on how to help someone who wants to buy a home... but really needs some help in doing so.
One of the most frustrating things a seller can experience... is finding a buyer who is both READY to buy their home, is also WILLING to buy their home, but for a variety of reasons... is UNABLE to purchase.  The ability to assist that buyer in a variety … (14 comments)
