It's New Year's Eve... Time For My MeMe - 12/31/07 09:12 PM
I must admit... I have been very tardy in writing my first MeMe.  One reason I have given myself is that I really didn't know what to do. First of all... who would want to know these things ?  Then, I thought about how fun it was to read some of the Meme's I have read.  So, here goes... I'll give it a try.
Some time ago, my friend Margaret Woda emailed me.  She wanted to play "tag."  But... it was MeMe tag.  Now, I like to write, but for the life of me I have just struggled with what to … (48 comments)

Floor Time... The Early Years... Part Two - 12/21/07 08:33 PM
Here is another tale from my "early years" on floor time:
This second "happening" occurred way back in about my third month in real estate ... and luckily, by that time I had learned quite a bit from Howard, my broker, about how to handle "floor time calls."
My broker's office phone number was only one digit off from the number of a local "fine dining" restaurant nearby.  I had already received a few wrong numbers asking for the restaurant.  This one Saturday I received another call... asking to be connected to the "dining room." By this time, I was feeling pretty good about my phone technique, … (21 comments)

The Fingerprint Requirement... Where does it end ? - 12/19/07 05:12 PM
The State of Texas has recently put into force the requirement that all Real Estate Licenses being renewed after January 1, 2008, be accompanied by the agent getting fingerprinted.
I must strongly protest this requirement.  How about taking blood samples ?  How about DNA samples ?  This is an intrusion... a personal invasion of my privacy.  I very much resent it.
There are some who would say "if you have nothing to hide, then what's the problem ?"  It has nothing to do with having anything to hide !  But it has everything to do with Big Government getting involved in our personal … (53 comments)

Just What Is a Blog, Anyway ? - 12/19/07 03:59 PM
I just finished reading a post by Meghan Mullee entitled "Too Old To Blog?"  One of the agents in her office suggested that "blogging is a younger, hipper thing, and she'd lose the interest of the older people."
I think if someone made that suggestion to me... I would consider smacking them with my laptop.
Perhaps the word "blog" scares some people... but all a blog is... is a type of "online journal."  It is a way of inviting the public to step into your "space" and get to know you.  It is a way of connecting with people, and it is … (12 comments)

This single story home is just packed with features on the "wish list" of most of the buyers I have met.  The covered from porch really sets off the exterior look.  The "streetscape" is one most folks remember first after a long day of looking at home after home after home.
The porch, the brick columns, the steep pitch of the roof, the "reverse gable" with the mild-eyebrow window above the garage door, and finally the double-eyebrow dormer window above the porch... all these … (10 comments)

When Clients Become Friends... My Favorite Christmas Present ! - 12/07/07 11:39 PM
I have a very good friend named Robert.  Wednesday night I went over to his home (which I sold him) and visited with Robert and his lovely wife Carey.  We were getting together that night so that Robert could "give me" my Christmas Present.
About a week ago I did something I have never done in my life.  I have watched Robert cook for himself and his wife.  Robert is of the Italian persuasion.  Robert is a Great Cook.  He is also a very witty person.  When I am at his home while he is cooking... watching him... he, of course, knows … (40 comments)

There's Still Time to Use the Homestead Exemption as a Closing Tool... - 12/07/07 10:21 AM
Earlier this year I wrote a blog post about the Homestead Exemption in Texas.  I've received some requests for some additional ideas on the subject... so here goes:
In Texas, we Texans are very proud of our homes.  We treasure them.  It appears the Great State of Texas treasures them, too.  The Homestead Exemption is just one more thing Texas has done to encourage home ownership.
The basic Homestead Exemption is sort of like a "discount" on a homeowner's real estate taxes.  In Texas, if you take title to a home by the end of any calendar year... and if you use that … (6 comments)

My New MAC... Episode One - 12/07/07 07:59 AM
I have received many requests from Active Rainers about my new "adventure" in buying a MAC.
I am not sure if some folks had simply been thinking about getting a MAC, and wanted to see how things went with my purchase, or if their frustration with the new Windows Vista operating system had become the last straw for them... and that's why they were thinking about getting a MAC.
Either way, I am going to start a "new thread" sharing my continuing story about me and my new MAC.

You Can't Get There From Here ! - 12/06/07 12:11 AM
Quite a few years ago I lived in Columbia, Maryland.  Now, for those of you who have never been to Columbia, and I was one of them, Columbia was one of the first "planned communities" in the country.  I believe it was Mr Rouse who planned out the entire city... separated it into specific "villages"... from the very beginning.
I think it was during my first week after arriving in Columbia.  I was driving around... I think I was on Little Patuxent Parkway... and somehow I got lost.  I drove around some more, and seemed to be going in circles  I just … (20 comments)

No Bubble Here ! Fort Worth/Dallas Market is Vibrant... 4.27% Value Increase Projected for 2008 - 12/02/07 09:29 AM
According to a new survey just released by the National Association of Realtors, Three Cities in Texas are NOT faced with the Continuing National Problem of Falling Home Prices.
Prices in the Fort Worth/Dallas Real Estate Market are projected to climd by an average of 4.28 Percent in the coming year 2008.  San Antonia Home Values are also projected to increase.
As I have written many times in previous posts, much of Texas has not been burdened by the problem of the "Real Estate Bubble" bursting.  There has been "no bubble here."  Thus... with it's being such a distinctly different market... Fort Worth/Dallas continues to … (10 comments)
